Cistern Basillica was built in 6th century AD to store water drawn from forests over 16kms away via Roman aqueducts. It wasn't discovered until years later when curious locals, drawing water from an magical underground well, decided to take a deeper look. Unfortunately on this photographers deeper look into the cistern, I was denied the use of my tripod and flash gear and my attempts to tell security that i was on an official mission for Kazakstan Geographic fell on deaf ears . In the end i was limited to the standard photos of most tourists.
