Always a great place to visit!

There was a couple days when we passed by here where the smoke and/or fog was so thick that you could not even see the cliff. I also noticed that the river has swelled so much at the mouth that most of the beach near the main entrance is all water now.

Silver Falls is a beautiful hidden gem in the coastal village of Michipicoten (first nations). The waterfall has a trail which allows you to get up close to the top of this giant for some amazing close ups. Most people only go see the Scenic Magpie High Falls outside of Wawa, Ontario but if you travel into Michipicoten, which is only a few minutes off of hwy 17 south of Wawa, you can catch a glimpse of this one which is just further downstream of Magpie and in my opinion is much more magnificent in both size and power. The village also has a beautiful sand beach with some historical displays educating you about the history of the area. We learned that A. Y. Jackson, one of the original group of seven members, had spent his final days from 1955 to 1974 here after purchasing a cottage in the area.

The Trans Canada Hwy travels in all 4 compass directions here in Algoma District, and this past week I had the privilege of experiencing them all as we spent the past week out in beautiful Lake Superior Provincial Park.
Unfortunately due to the current wildfire situation up north, we were unable to continue our planned trip up to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park near Thunder Bay, but we did manage to score some last minute prime real estate on the lake at Agawa Bay due to the many cancellations.
Lots of photos to come from our Algoma get away...and also the reason i have been rather absent on my page the past week lol.

Big congratulations to these two love birds, Cole & Sarah, who tied the knot this past weeked at Laurentian Lodge ( July 11, 2026) after 8 years together, beginning their next journey as husband & wife!

The 2nd Annual Mt Dufour Bike Race (July 12, 2026) was held this weekend with a decent turnout. Riders from SSM, Elliot Lake and Sudbury all competed in this downhill event this year. Big shout out to Elliot lake Elliot Lake XC Ski & Bike Club for putting on a spectacular event! Besides the main downhill race, the event also included a youth track, a fun zone with games, and a few fun competitions to entertain the visitors. Here is a photo gallery of the action!

Today is the day to begin registering for the 2nd annual Mount Dufour Mountain Bike Race hosted by Elliot Lake XC Ski & Bike Club!

Cost is $50 per adult for the main event (downhill race).
Only $10.00 for kids (ages 5-11) who wish to race the mini track!
-must pre-register on friday or saturday to enter any of the races: kids or adult.
-all kids receive a loot bag.
-plenty of games & the prizes will be awarded by raffle.

Registration begins at 4pm to 7pm today (Friday July 10, 2026) at Mt. Dufour Ski Area You can also register tomorrow (saturday July 11, 2026) from 9am to 4pm. Practice runs all day.

Sunday is the main event! Practice begins at 8am, official race begins at 11am on Sunday July 12, 2026.
Your results will be based on a combined time of two runs.

If you like to ride, come sign up for your chance to sit in the winners circle on the comfy couch! Or just come for the entertainment! Food & Drinks are available. Full Circle Event Co will be providing a food truck.
