☀️ Okay, but have you seen these posts about bringing back a “’90s summer” for the kids?

Think: bike rides until the streetlights come on, sprinkler runs in the yard, popsicles that melt faster than you can eat them, sidewalk chalk everywhere, catching fireflies in jars, and zero schedules… just outside-all-day kind of living. Pure nostalgia.

One thing about me — I will always say YES to bringing your parents for a photo during your mini session.

While typical minis are designed to stay simple with one immediate family household (just because the sessions are short and the time flies), I truly believe there’s something so special about making sure you get an updated photo with your parents in the frame too.

Those photos become more meaningful with every passing year 🤍

Happy Mother’s Day 🤍

Thinking today of the mothers celebrating with full hearts, the ones carrying grief beside joy, the women missing their moms, the moms missing their babies, the stepmoms, grandmothers, bonus moms, the ones longing to become mothers, the ones with a strained relationship with their mom, and the ones simply doing their very best every single day.

Motherhood — and Mother’s Day — can hold so many different emotions at once.

Whatever today looks like for you, I hope you feel loved, seen, and appreciated for all that you carry.

And I hope there are photographs of you in the frame too.

I think maybe photography was always about cherishing every single detail for me.

And grieving my mom while becoming one myself changed the way I saw all of it.

I lost my mom 6 weeks before I became a mother.

She was my best friend. The person I was supposed to call when things and motherhood felt heavy, beautiful, confusing, exhausting. The one I was supposed to ask all the questions to. And when someone you love is gone, photographs become more than photographs.

You search them differently.

You look for meaning in the smallest details. The way she held me. The expression on her face. The softness in her eyes. You study photos trying to know them more deeply somehow… trying to hold onto pieces of them you’re scared time will erase.

And now, having the privilege of photographing so many mothers over the years, I understand this even more.

There’s a quote floating around lately that says:
“The photos are for you now… but one day, they’ll be for them.”

That hit me hard.

Because one day your children will go looking for you in photographs too.
Not just what you looked like — but how you loved them. How you held them close. How safe they felt beside you. The way you looked at them when they were little.

That’s what motherhood photographs really are.

Not perfection.
Not matching outfits.
Not proving anything.

Just evidence of love.
Of presence.
Of a mother who was here.

And I will never stop being grateful that I get to preserve that for families. 💕
