This young New Brunswick bull moose has just started to shed his velvet as you can see by the blood on his right antler. This process takes place when the bulls testosterone levels start to rise and antler development stops as breeding season nears.

Walking up on a moose antler whether it’s an old chewed up white that’s almost completely deteriorated or a beautiful brown, it never gets old. Finding antlers is a challenge and becomes very addictive. Every once in a while you stumble on a really nice one!

**Fall is in the air here in New Brunswick!**

The recent cool nights have really started to get the moose on the move, and I had the pleasure of spending a few days searching for them with Matt, who was visiting all the way from Paris, France, and his sister Emily.

The moose still seem to be spending much of their time moving under the cover of darkness, but with some early mornings and a little patience, we were rewarded with several amazing encounters..

There’s something special about sharing these experiences with people who are just as excited to see these incredible animals in their natural environment. As the temperatures continue to drop and fall gets closer, the woods are starting to come alive.

There’s something special about those cool late-summer mornings.

When that crisp morning air meets the warmth of the rising sun, it can create some incredible atmosphere—mist hanging over the landscape, golden light breaking through, and wildlife moving through it all.

These are the mornings that make getting up before daylight completely worth it.

As daylight broke, I was greeted by a thick, heavy fog and the sounds of the marsh coming alive—morning birds chirping, bullfrogs calling, and somewhere out in the fog…the unmistakable sound of a moose feeding in the water.

I pushed off in my kayak, barely able to see anything through the fog, and simply followed the sound.

If you’ve ever spent time around moose feeding in the water, you know just how noisy they can be. The splashing, chewing and pulling of aquatic plants often gives them away long before you ever catch your first glimpse.
