Last month I entered some of my self-portrait work into a black and white photography contest to be featured in a magazine. Unfortunately I did not win, but I'm still proud of my images and the work that went into this personal project.
Check out the write-up along with the images which I captured during 2020.
-COVID 19's Quarantine-
When the virus outbreak hit North America I was in California, winding down on my two month visit and anxiously awaiting my flights home. Once I finally made my way back to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, I knew my return would start with a two week period of self-isolation in my apartment and so 'it', the solo creative journey, began.
Living alone while in lockdown left me with a lot of free time and little choice but to create on my own for myself, of myself.
I would go on to capture a series of fun and therapeutic self-portrait work in my apartment bedroom using a variety of natural light from seasonal changes to different restriction phases, and throughout altering emotions, moods and even hairstyles over the span of months.
Quarantine had finally forced me to be my own model (I had always wanted to focus on self-portraiture) and it led me to practice my posing, confidence and self-love. I also found myself seeking and embracing light, literally and figuratively of all sorts.
Here is the outcome from independently creating within my comforting four walls - and yet outside my comfort zone - during this past year of unpredictable pandemic life.
