This shoot also happened to be our first one back after taking some time away to enjoy life with our little one (she did good as sleeping director assistant). Safe to say Brielle made the return very easy on us!

Day 10: Dedication & Growth

We are a dedicated dance photography duo with a shared passion for creating meaningful and artistic images for the dance community. While Mike also specializes in weddings, portraits, and commercial photography, where his photography career originally began, our goal as husband and wife has always been to help support and grow the dance community both in front of our camera and beyond through supporting dancers and studios alike.

At some point dance photography quietly took over our lives… and honestly we stopped fighting it a long time ago 😂

Day 9: Fun & Creativity

Most dancers show up at least a little nervous at first… and honestly, we get it. That’s why we create sessions that feel relaxed, supportive, creative, and fun instead of rushed or overly serious. We want dancers to leave not only with photos they love, but with memories and experiences they genuinely enjoyed being part of.

Usually within about 15 minutes everyone forgets they were nervous… and the creative chaos begins 😂

Day 8: Authentic & Real

We believe in showcasing authentic talent. We never alter body shapes or artificially correct poses in post-production. Instead, we work together during the session to refine poses, technique, and movement until they feel strong, natural, technically correct, and something you’re genuinely proud of.

If a pose needs fixing, we do it in-camera or move on. We do not perform digital gymnastics later.

Day 7: Clothing & Attire

While dancers and families choose their own outfits, we’re always happy to provide guidance to help ensure clothing feels age-appropriate, photographs well, and complements both the posing and overall aesthetic of the session.

We also focus on personality-driven styling rather than traditional dance costumes. We want outfits to help showcase who the dancer is, allowing their personality, style, and individuality to naturally come through in the images. Our goal is always to create images that feel stylish, artistic, comfortable, and true to the dancer.
And if we gently steer you away from an outfit option… please know it’s never personal 😂 Sometimes an outfit just doesn’t love the camera, the lighting, the backdrop or the pose quite as much as we hoped.

Day 6: Posing & Intent

Every pose is carefully guided and refined to highlight strength, flexibility, technique, and artistry while still maintaining an elegant and tasteful overall look. We pay close attention to posing, lighting, wardrobe, and camera angles to avoid emphasizing unintended areas and to help ensure the focus always stays on the dancer and the art itself.

A lot more thought goes into posing than people probably realize… sometimes the difference between “WOW” and “wait absolutely not” is moving a hand two inches

Day 5: Tips & Planning

We help guide you from beginning to end of your photoshoot experience. From location and backdrop colour choices to guidance on outfits, hair, makeup, and overall styling, we’re here to help make the planning process feel easier and less overwhelming. Our questionnaires and planning process also help us better understand your skills, abilities, and comfort level. Sharing your overall vision for the session is extremely important.

And yes… showing up with an entire suitcase of outfits is completely normal around here lol. We actually love it, it gives us more flexibility and allows us to get creative with different looks, textures, layers, and ideas throughout the session.

Day 4: Safety & Assurance

Physical and mental safety will always come first during our sessions. Dancers are given time to warm up, prepare, take breaks when needed, and we will never ask anyone to perform something they are uncomfortable with. Creating a supportive, respectful, and safe environment matters just as much to us as creating great photos.

The only thing we want people pulling during a session… a really good pose (not a muscle).

Day 3: Security & Monitoring

Creating a safe environment goes beyond just the studio. We actively monitor our social media platforms and work to remove suspicious or inappropriate accounts in order to help keep our online spaces safer for dancers and our community.

At this point we’ve probably removed enough suspicious accounts to fill another entire follower list, but we’d rather have a safer community than a prettier number.
