“We love candid photos.”

It’s one of the most common things couples tell me on inquiry calls.

What many people don’t realize is that candid photos need room to happen.

If every minute of a wedding day is scheduled, there’s very little opportunity for genuine moments with friends and family to unfold naturally.

Derek & Lily celebrated with an intimate wedding at Agricola Street Brasserie, surrounded by the people who matter most to them, delicious food and fantastic music.

When we planned their timeline, we intentionally protected time for conversations, hugs, laughter, dancing, and all of the moments in between.

Looking back on this day, some of my favourite images from their gallery aren’t necessarily the portraits.

They’re these.

The people. The energy. The moments they didn’t even know were happening.

Client questionnaires are rolling in and it looks like this summer Nova Scotia is going to be full of colourful weddings!! Honestly, I can’t wait! I’m such a fan of all things colour… wedding guests in florals and bright summer hues…ahh! Bring it on!

One of my favourite frames from Zoe & Sam’s engagement session in Chester, Nova Scotia.

I send every couple an engagement session guide (and a wedding planning guide), and I put a lot of time, thought and care into them.

When people actually read them and come in prepared, it makes a huge difference.

Zoe & Sam did exactly that. They showed up relaxed, comfortable, and just focused on each other.

A beautiful downtown Halifax engagement session from last summer with Mel, Graham and sweet Miss Ruby.

Mel & Graham’s wedding will officially kick off my wedding season this year in May and I can’t wait!!

I love when my clients come up with ideas for their engagement sessions that really feel like them! Getting dressed up and strolling around was super fun (I mean those rooftop photos 😍). But then getting into their jeans, blue jays ball caps, grabbing a beer and taking Ruby along was also such a great time and allowed me to capture what a normal weekend date might look like for these 3!
