this time last year - cape breton island, a & l. digital / film

i’m the first to admit that i am terrible at sharing my work here / updating my website. sometimes it feels like screaming into a pointless void, you know? what even IS social media? is the internet real?

that being said, as someone who doesn’t identify with being a ‘traditional wedding’ photographer but is at the same time obsessed with documenting love, i am endlessly grateful for the beautiful folks who trust me to capture days like these.

here are a few pictures (out of hundreds) i love a lot.
thinking about them showing their daughter these photos one day makes me want to cry, in the happiest sort of way. 💛

ps was a star and made a last minute spectacular wedding cake with twelve hours notice after i a) overcommitted myself and b) drove by literally all the groceries stores en route

i love them. i love fridays. i love stopping at the candy store for ‘wollipops’ and blue goo. i love letting them each pick out a fancy straw. i love watching them play outside as i unpack groceries. i love blowing bubbles for them to chase. i love chalk drawings of kirby and cookies and hearts. i love baking croissants for supper just because, and the way soloman wants me to come sit ‘cwiss cwoss applesauce’ and watch them in the oven. i love the endless conversations over whose the best character in gardians of the galaxy and why. i love making lemonade from our secret recipe (google), and how auggie never gets tired of that joke.

eight days ago i took a hard hit to the face. my nose is fractured in two places, and i have a concussion. i cannot use screens or read for more than a few minutes at a time. i am easily tired and have bouts of dizziness. energy is low. i have a constant headache, worse in the mornings. pain medication helps a bit. there is a lot of internal swelling but the bruising is going down slowly. doctors orders to rest as much as possible. i’ll get checked out in another month to determine what needs to be done surgically (if anything). hoping my body does its thing and heals, having some difficulty breathing but it’s to be expected.

in any case, i’ll be doing what i’m told. many thanks in advance for patience. i appreciate it all. i’m working as much as possible when i’ve the energy, but brain injuries are tough and erratic i’m learning. one step forward, two back.
