We tried another new dog sport yesterday. Chase Ability asks the dog to chase a lure around a course (600m in her division) independently.

We didn’t have a qualifying run, but she definitely had fun. She chased the lure readily, but peeled off to come check in when she got to the far point away from me. It’s a long way for a dog who generally has a pretty small radius from me when she’s off leash! She was able to get back on chasing the lure, which shows promise she will be successful with some practice. Qualifying run or not, she had fun and that’s the important thing!

This was the second event we’ve attended hosted by the East Coast Sighthound Association and both have been fun, welcoming environments. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers for their hard work making these events run!

🌼🌱🌞Weekend Wrap-up!🌞🌱🌼

Thank you for supporting our first Sprinter Tests of 2026 and making them memorable! The sun was shining, the dogs were screaming, and our machine took an unauthorized break on Sunday afternoon 🫠! As always, huge thanks to our club volunteers for keeping spirits high, the Heats rolling, and the dogs running safely. Congrats to everyone who had qualifying runs, first runs, breakthroughs in bag chasing, personal bests, new titles, and rocket recalls! All results (save these for your records!) have been emailed to exhibitors via DogShow.ca. Keep your eyes peeled in the upcoming days for teaser photos on the Chase the Magic - Dog Sport Photography page and instructions on purchasing your pictures 📷👀

Franey went to her first
Sprinter tests last weekend, held by the East Coast Sighthound Association

Sprinter is a timed 100m dash where dogs chase a lure or recall to their handler. Time is converted to km/h and multiplied by a handicap based on the dog's height to determine points earned.
Franey's first ever run clocked in at 10.440s, which equates to 34.48km/hr and earned 52 points. She ran two additional tests after that and got faster each time!

Test 2: 9.260s, 38.88km/h, 58 points
Test 3: 9.120s, 39.47km/h, 59 points

With these 3 runs she was able to collect the 150 points required for the Novice Sprinter title.

The title is great, but the most important thing is she enjoyed it and we had so much fun. It was a great day with fantastic volunteers and friendly people. We'll definitely be playing again!

Happy 1st Birthday Franey!

I can’t believe a year has gone so quickly. We’ve already had so many adventures and accomplished so much. She’s the perfect sweet and spicy addition to our crew. She’s game to try anything and make it fun. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings us!

A big Happy Birthday wish to the rest of the Agassiz’s Grande Finale litter, Mako, Johnny and Djin-Djin!

We had another fun weekend of playing rat sports at the Rats! Canada trial. Jackson earned his Novice Barn Ratting title and 2 Qs toward his Advanced Barn Ratting title. Franey earned her Instinct and Novice Brush Hunt titles, and Memphis added more Qs toward her Master Barn Ratting title. We had some NQs as well, but the important thing is we all had fun! This community has been so welcoming and I look forward to each event. Qs, titles and ribbons are great but having fun with our dogs and hanging out with a fantastic crew of people is the best part. Big thank you to all the judges, volunteers and competitors who make these trials what they are.

I managed to snag one official title photo of Jackson, but didn’t manage to get any of the girls. The video is of one of Jackson’s Advanced Barn Ratting runs. He’s a pretty subtle searcher, but you can see he stopped working after he located what tube the rat was in and the returned to it. Of course he had to check out the crowd to make sure all eyes were on him prior to starting his search!

On a whim we entered Jackson in his first Rats! Canada trial and he had an absolute blast! At 17.5 years old he earned his Instinct Barn Ratting title and made lots of new friends, both dogs and people. I guess he now has a second sport career after retirement!
