A former Naval Officer, Stuart Moors (instagram: ) first picked up a camera while preparing for his final military posting as Defence Attaché, Cairo, Egypt. In retirement, armed with a camera given to him as a gift, he truly caught the photography bug and threw himself into creative landscape photography. A natural eye helped Stuart win several awards in Canadian Armed Forces wide

imagery competitions in 2016 and 2019. In 2021, Stuart decided to take his photography to the next level, enrolling in the Professional Photography Program at the Nova Scotia Community College where he honed his skills in portraiture, flash, event, and studio photography, graduating with Honours in June 2023. He has married his love for photography with his deep attachment to the sea and the rugged beauty of coastal Atlantic Canada and Nova Scotia. A people person, Stuart’s ability to comfortably interact with his subject when capturing photos contributes to a fun process and a pleasing result. Whether capturing an individual portrait or a magical sunrise or sunset, Stuart reveals his subject in beautiful light to capture the viewer’s imagination and to draw them into his images. Stuart’s other passions in life include spending time with his family, curling, and cheering the Toronto Maple Leafs on to their next Stanley Cup.

It is always enjoyable to marry together two passions - a long and rewarding naval career, with photography. Last week I had the pleasure to do some event photography at a conference sponsored by the Naval Association of Canada (Maritimes) and the Canadian Maritime Security Network. Entitled "Canada in Alliance: Maritime Security in a Changing World" the conference brought together military, federal and provincial government, industry, and academic subject matter experts. Keynote Speakers included Jeff Kibble, MP Cowichan-Malahat-Langford, Colton LeBlanc, NS Minister of Growth and Development, and VAdm Angus Topshee, Commander, Royal Canadian Navy. Following the conference, many joined together with the Vice-Regal Party, His Honour Mike Savage and Her Honour Darlene Savage, His-Worship Mayor Andy Fillmore, and Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, Commander, Royal Canadian Navy to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic at a Gala Dinner.

It was a memorable day full of healthy debate, exchange of ideas, and remembrance of those more than 4500 personnel (RCN, Merchant Navy and RCAF) who sacrificed everything for Canada in the longest continuous military campaign in WWII.

I was fortunate to recently photograph a group of great Nova Scotians. These Province of NS Emergency Health Services (EHS) Flight Nurses and Flight Paramedics are unsung heroes, working daily aboard LifeFlight aircraft to ensure the safety of Nova Scotians in medical distress.

This past summer my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting, on the occasion of our son's marriage to his beautiful wife, the picturesque Okanagan Valley, Penticton and a delightful wine making microcosm called the Naramata Bench. Within just 20km there are a plethora of fantastic Vinyards. Having happily indulged in several wine tastings with our son and his new bride, we landed at Laughing Stock Vineyards (LFNG) where the wines were simply delectable. Founded by former colleagues from the financial world, David and Cynthia Enns chose the Vinyard's most appropriate name as peers considered their career switch to be "fiscally foolish"! The tasting room and ambience were so delightful we are now LFNG club members and we are 'forced' to purchase and drink their exceptional reds each year.

As the cold and snow have been at times heavy this winter, I recently brought a prized bottle of LFNG 2023 Syrah down to my basement photo studio to pass the time more pleasantly than shovelling the driveway by doing some product photography. The time was cathartic as NSCC faculty Ingram Barss' words came alive again and I thought back to those weekend afternoons in the NSCC Ivany Campus photo studios working on product photography assignments.

This is a composite of two images using three lights. To Laughing Stock Vineyards and Ingram Barss - Cheers!
