I’ve been made to recycle myself and change my narrative many times already. Having studied photography before the digital era, I’ve had to put my first passion aside, to concentrate on finding new and intriguing avenues, to live life to the fullest!
Every experience we go through, makes us more of who we become... Therefore, choosing to travel as a volunteer in community and international development, was what helped me build my portfolio in the early 2000. But also, what brought me to discover the world; different cultures, different jobs, different people, across Canada and abroad.
“Thinking globally but acting locally” is what became one of my preferred quotes, and was guided to affect change in my own community, when I chose to settle down, in 2005-2006. After more than 10 years of community engagement and political advocacy for things such as environmental and community health, I’ve decided it was now time, to add on some schooling opportunities, to better distinguish what might be my next steps, my next project undertaking, in the near future...
Who would have thought, that it would be my second child, my giving a second birth, that would influence such a grandiose change in life... Becoming pregnant with my daughter in 2017, I was afraid of having to let go of the job I loved, and the financial security I had finally attained. But instead of blaming my new little one for those imposed changes, I got inspired!
Taboo topics have always attracted me. That’s maybe what makes me who I am... The “different” person in the room, the “special” one growing up, the “gifted” one with the alternative mind... Sometimes it was difficult to accept those labels when I was younger, but its also what brought me to become, the person I’m loving to see becoming...
So, what about going back to school as a Lactation, Birth or Sexual Health Consultant? “Nah! I certainly don’t feel like having to go through a nursing degree...” Therefor, I found where I could focus my attention, once and for all.
Agglomerating all of my past experiences, especially the non-formal, adult education and not-for-profit organizations, and become; a Lactation, Childbirth and Sexual Health Educator and maybe even counselor...
Why not refocus my interests and my capacity to advocate for a cause, to better my communities health, by offering women and their partners, new, alternative, empowering and evidence-based ways to embark, on their own family journeys. “Since mine transformed me, why not guide others, in that transition?!”
Welcome! Bienvenue !
Through this page, you are invited in joining me in this process, in this change of narrative, in becoming the change I want to see in this world, in being focussed, on who I was meant to be!
B. FocussED - The Mom Job
Its a way for me to help others, Be Focussed, for this most important and wonderful transforming experience, that will ever be. The one and only hardest job, where we as a women, we become a Mom!
Lets B. FocussED together! Lets permit this new side of our femininity to grow as a community! Lets let Birth be focussed On, so that we can let it Be, the experience that transforms us for the better, forever... Lets educate ourselves, to make us stronger, to make informed choices, the path that we take, and the process to which we can Doula all that is expected, but also, what we aspire too the most. Let us be accompanied in the process of growing our village, rather than isolate ourselves further, when we are doing, the best job ever... Lets make sure to gather our strengths and experience together, to help others go through, this transformative experience, that becomes us, no matter how we end up struggling through it, or finding it easy... Lets accept welcoming hands that offer help, in this day and age, where were supposed to keep it all together, and be perfect for our Facebook post of the day. Lets give out a hand to guide others when it feels like no one else understands what were going through...
As it is through building community health options and alternatives, that we will create the change we want to see in this world. And the change I want to see, is the one where every women, every little girl, gets to be who they wish they’d become, when they grow older... for the better of our community! As it does take a village, to raise a child.
Thank you Doula Canada, for making me discover this passion I always had, but never new could be! Thank you for helping me become, who I wish I’d be! Thanks for guiding me in becoming!
