What a wonderful surprise Mother Nature had in store for us this year on our annual Waterton Wildflower trek! While the hot, dry spring adversely affected many of the blossoms we expected to enjoy, it also gave us the treat of a lifetime!
Beargrass! More beargrass than I have ever seen at one time. It's always special to find beargrass, but to see it as deep into the burned-out forest as far as one could see was simply amazing. And not just in one location, it went on for kilometres as we drove up the Akamina Parkway.
In speaking with a retired Park Warden, he told us he had never seen a bloom like it in the 30 years he had spent in the park.
