I’ve come full circle.

I’ve taken every path there is with photography; wildlife, landscapes, outdoor adventures, weddings, family portraits and more. My passion for photography has been the one constant on my journey. The most profound discoveries I have made along the way are the compelling stories to be told of colourful characters, inspiring entrepreneurs, adventures and magical places. I’ve learned that videos are one of the most powerful marketing tools today. Attention grabbing imagery combined with storytelling shared through social media.

It hasn’t been a straight path. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been wildly fulfilling.

My first camera was a graduation gift that came in the form of a little video camera. My friends and I were not normal teenagers out partying. Every spare moment was spent in the forest filming the crazy antics of my friends, either biking in the summer, or GT snow racing in the winter. I lost count of how many jumps we built and how many rolls of duct tape were used to patch together the snow racers we crashed. At the time I did not realize I was recording the stories of our youth.

After that fun video era I graduated up to a Nikon and bears. In my lifetime I've had over 400 bear encounters and it's still just as exciting as when I saw my first bear. I've been fascinated with wildlife for as long as I can remember. Wild creatures are so much more alert than us humans. I’ve encountered cougars and photographed wolves. My experiences have taught me a deep respect for wildlife and nature. A few of my wildlife photographs even made it into the pages of Canadian Geographic ‘Best of Wildlife’ and a National Geographic photo contest editor pick.

I was fortunate to grow up in a small town in the Rocky Mountains. Vacations were often spent camping in the West Kootenays where I now live among big mountains and big lakes. How can I even begin describing the beauty of the landscapes that surround me? Crystal-clear lakes fed by cascading meltwater amidst majestic peaks and lush green forests. Colourful sunsets and the occasional aurora are spectacular vivid delights where the stars are not diminished by light. There’s a sharpness and clarity in this wilderness amidst stillness and peace. Maybe I can describe it better with images.

And now I’ve come full circle back to video as well as still photography. One thing has remained unchanged over the past fifteen years. There’s always been a camera in my hand and photography is my life. The learning never stops. I live for the days when I’m out there to unearth and create another beautiful image or visual story. These are the moments when I feel truly alive.
