A little while back, I got a message from Tyler. He wanted to surprise his wife, Meag, for her birthday — she’d been following me, and he had the idea to gift her a family session instead of another thing.

We met up shortly after her birthday, and - this is a hill I will die on - a photo session is the absolute best gift. A little envelope to unwrap with a gift certificate in it. That certificate is so much more than a piece of paper though — it’s an afternoon of golden light, giggly girls, and a family being fully present with each other. The kind of gift that never expires and never goes out of style.

The girls had an absolute blast — running all over the fields of Josette in matching dresses, climbing into an old hollowed-out log, nose-to-nose giggling fits. Honestly, I had just as much fun as they did.

The kind of ease when you shoot with people you actually know is unmatttttched. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely looove my new clients (hiiii! I’ve met so many of you lately!), and a lot of times when you click with new clients it can feel like we’ve known each other for years, but there’s something about taking photos with a photog you’ve known for what seems like forever that gets those comfy genuine moments that show up on each frame.

You may have seen Josh around here since he’s my second shooter that I bring with me to most weddings, and Laurissa and I have babies a day apart- she was one of my lifelines during my first mat leave. This engagement session was more like an afternoon with friends than a job so it’s the perfect example of the shots you get when you know your photog
 We started at Josette (yes, they are considering getting married in our garden 👀), then wandered over to the spot where they had their first date. I borrowed his drone (and then promptly bought my own the next day haha it was so fun) and lent her a dress from my client closet. I mixed up the usual poses with some games and prompts. She gave me exactly 3 inspo images and said “I trust your vision” We laughed the entire time.

This is your sign: find a photographer whose work you love, and stick with them. The comfort that shows up in every frame is worrrrrth it.

This family told me they hadn’t taken family photos in years — and with their newest little one here, they knew it was time to get back into it. (Never too late to start documenting your family, whether your kids are 6 weeks or 6 years old.)

We spent golden hour both indoors and out at Josette. Soft window light for the quiet close-up moments, open field light for the chaos and giggles of two older sisters running through the grass and adoring their littlest sidekick. My favourite kind of session is exactly like this. Everyone just being themselves and having fun 🤍

I went from singing and eating sun chips to crying and musing about parenting to explaining why my prices are going up this month lol 😂 Join me for the ride while my cat screams beside me (he hates car rides)

If you’re a mum I’m sure you can relate- the guilt that comes with pursuing your creative interests while leaving the kiddos at home. I’m SO grateful I’m able to take up this kind of space and that I have the best partner whose equal parenting allows this to happen. I’m SO honoured that my clients choose to spend their hard earned time and money on my services. I’m really proud that my boys get to see their mum having her own passions and interests, being her own person and not just Mum 24/7. And I’m SO happy that your support means I get to be both Mum and this creative person who loves her job 🤍

Prices are going up this month mostly so I can take on fewer clients and spend more time with the babes. Book before August 15th to lock in the current rate 🥰

Two years in business. Double that behind the camera.

If you’ve worked with me, you know it’s less “photoshoot” and more “hanging out with a friend who happens to have a camera.” I get invested — genuinely, embarrassingly so 🙈— in your kids’ milestones, your family’s inside jokes, the way your toddler says one specific word wrong, when your grandmother sees you walk down the aisle 😭🥲. That’s the whole point for me.

So today I’m just sitting with an oat chai latte, looking at two years of your families’ memories, feeling really lucky that you chose me to be a part of it.

I don’t care if everyone’s looking at the camera.

I care if they’re looking at each other.

The giant unprompted smile. The brothers showing off how they can run full speed through a field. The way this whole family leans into their baby without thinking about it. The kiss nobody asked for. The eye roll because someone’s always making a face. THE PRIDE 🥹🥹🥹 The squished-together faces. The way they hold onto their mom.
That’s the stuff that actually matters — the connection, the personality, the real relationships between real people.

Do we usually get the everyone-smiling-at-the-camera shot anyway? Yes.

But that’s not where my focus is. My focus is on catching you being you — together.

Studio Josette welcomed the sweetest new arrival the other day 🤍 This little babe is the baby sister of one of my son’s best friends, which made this session so much more than just a newborn shoot. One of my favourite perks of having a home studio? When the session wrapped, the kids got to have a play date right after - having not seen each other for weeks. It was adorable. They hugged like 3 times 😭

This beautiful family is francophone, and being able to switch back and forth between English and French - especially when posing their older daughter - was such a joy. It’s one of those little moments in this job that fills my heart — connecting with families in whatever way they feel most comfortable.

When your friend tells you he’s starting his own business, you show up with your whole heart… and your camera. 🤍

We had so much fun taking these headshots — Craig Zimmerman is a leadership coach (like a fitness coach but instead of building muscle he’s building skills in leadership!) who is out here building something of his own, and I could not be more proud.

As a small business owner myself, I know firsthand how much courage it takes to bet on yourself. The leap is scary and the hustle is real. He has so much passion for what he does. Go follow Craig Zimmerman — he is the real deal. 🙌🏻

✨ A little tip for your next headshot session:
Bring multiple outfits. Seriously — it’s one of the simplest things you can do to get more mileage out of your photos. Different colours, different necklines, dressed up vs. dressed down — each look tells a slightly different story and gives you content that works across every platform. Website, LinkedIn, Instagram, speaker bio, email signature... one session, endless possibilities.

You deserve photos that work as hard as you do.

Feeling so grateful for my clients who will wait for the weather to change from tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms with me and jump into the water as soon as it becomes safe again 🌪️ ☀️

We definitely don’t need perfect weather to get gorgeous photos but safety comes first 🤍 I’m soaking up these beach sessions while I can 🏖️

Life is so weird because one minute she’s one of your grade 5 students in one of your very first classrooms and the next you’re taking her grade 12 grad photos 😭

Campbell, I knew it 7 years ago and I was totally right - you’re going to make a huge difference in the world 🤍 I’m so proud to have been a little part of your path!

Congrats to all my past grade 5 kiddos (not kiddos anymore 🥲) and to all the grads 🎉 je suis si fière de vous 🙌🏻
