CASCADING PEBBLES
==============================
I set the tripod up on the loose rocks of Little Hunter's Beach in Acadia National Park before sitting down on some deadwood waiting for the perfect shot. The beach itself can be very different between high and low tides, which offered something different every time we checked it out. The one thing that remained constant was the rushing sound of the small rounded pebbles cascading back towards the ocean as the waves receded. Each new crash of a wave was quickly followed by several seconds of these small rocks rolling back down into the ocean. It was an incredibly relaxing afternoon, and that soundtrack will stick with me forever.

SOUTH FALLS
==============================
Arriving at Silver Falls State Park early that morning, I was met with a consistent downpour which meant I was all alone to stroll through the multiple waterfalls within this small park. The first falls I came across was South Falls which stood 177ft tall, with the trail leading you in behind the falling water.

72nd STREET STATION
==============================
We arrived at this station just before sunset, and quickly took a seat and set up the tripod. We had a nice older gentleman playing saxophone for most of the shoot, which added to the calm ambience as the sun went down, and the lights of city began to emerge.

Here are my favourite 9 images of the year! 2017 included trips to Toronto, Oregon, Acadia Natl Park, and NYC with lots of amazing photo opportunities, and to cap it off, we welcomed our first child “Jack” into the world only 4 days ago. I want to thank everyone that supported and promoted my passion over the past year whether it be through sales, shares, awards, and articles, and I look forward to what 2018 will bring. A special thank you also goes out to my wife Sierra, who not only carried and delivered a beautiful baby boy throughout the year, but is also super patient and supportive when it comes to my photographic endeavours.
Happy New Years to everyone!

FROM A WOODEN BRIDGE IN VENICE
==============================
After finishing an amazing free walking tour of Venice, we made our way over to Ponte dell’Accademia to take in the sunset. The wooden bridge was somewhat rickety and didn’t provide much space to set up a tripod. Instead, I clamped my camera and wide-angle lens to a small piece of iron, leaving the whole setup hanging precariously over the canal below. In the end, I left with dry equipment, and a handful of images used to build the above result!

WIESENDANGER FALLS
==============================
An early morning start on the Multnomah-Wahkeena hike meant I was the first to arrive in the parking lot shortly after sunrise. The goal was to start the 5mi hike ASAP in order to shoot all 8 waterfalls before the sun would start to cast harsh light on the scenes. A fellow photographer Michael Hellen, who I had met a few nights earlier at Rowena Crest, coincidentally also had the same game plan. We kicked off the hike and began capturing images.
As we arrived at Wiesendanger Falls, our luck ended, but not before the sun cast some amazing light rays just off to the side.

A high tide on an early morning over in Acadia National Park.

Tides played a huge role in my photography this past summer. I visited this location on the first day of our trip at a low-tide sunrise only to have 2/3 of the frame taken up by empty grey beach and seaweed. Fast forward to the end of our trip when high-tide aligned perfectly with the sunrise, which...

THOR’S WELL
==============================
I recently spent a week down in Oregon photographing the Columbia River Gorge, but also made sure to spend a few days in Yachats to photograph the coast and Thor's well. I returned multiple times in different conditions, times, and tides to see what this small attraction would produce. Each time, I was amazed at the raw power and sheer amount of water that travelled around the well before plunging back into the ocean. This shot was taken during high tide, but I also have a low-tide sunset shot that I look forward to sharing with you soon!

ROMAN ANGELS
==============================
Our first night in Rome back in 2016 led us to Castel Sant'Angelo and it's bridge next to the Tiber River. Translated to english, "Castle of the Holy Angel" and also known as the "Mausoleum of Hadrian", this fortification was built between 123-139 AD, and served numerous other roles throughout its existence including a military fortress, papal fortress, a residence, and a prison.

FAIRY FALLS
==============================
I'm speechless after hearing about the fires in the Columbia River Gorge due to the carelessness of a few teenagers and some fireworks. I had the pleasure of visiting this lush trail back in May during the spring thaw, and the vegetation and waterfalls had an incredible effect on me. My thoughts are with the residents, and I hope that the damage will be limited and the Gorge will bounce back to its former glory.
