Expression is a photography business run by Ashley Clark specializing in portraits (both humans and pets) as well as events. Apart from her own business, Ashley is a photographer for Loyalist College and won the 2014 KFL&A Photovoice Contest. The story of Ashley and the becoming of Expression:
My Mom was always the one with a camera at family gatherings and on every vacation. She has an entire wa
ll filled with photo albums, so it really was no surprise when I felt the urge to pick up a camera.
As someone with no ability to create art with my hands, photography was a fantastic way for me to capture the beautiful things in life as opposed to trying – and failing– to draw, sketch or paint them.
In high school, I took photography and yearbook for two years and was at the top of my class in both. I took my camera everywhere... it was practically my prom date.
When people became interested in my photography I decided to launch my own business and began casually doing paid photo shoots. It started out as Paw Prints, with the focus on pet portraiture, but then I began getting interest from people wanting portraits so it transitioned into Ashtree Photography.
When college came around, I continued developing my skills and landed the job of Loyalist College photographer in my third year.
This past summer, I ran my own business through the Summer Company Program and incorporated my photography into an arts/entertainment media site called Expression. When the media side didn't quite take off, I decided to transition it into just a photography website as a way of re-branding. And now here we are!
I am a full-time college student who graduated with an advanced diploma in journalism, but decided to return for a post-graduate public relations certificate. On top of my photography I balance multiple jobs from freelancing to fast food. But don't worry, I can fit you in!
