Looking back on the memories made in 2025 I couldn’t believe so many wonderful things could happen in one year—from small moments in the kitchen to big moments at work, meeting so many incredible people along the way, and cherishing every second spent with the people I love. My heart is exceptionally full of gratitude moving into 2026.

Some cutie moments from the last year:

1. My first exhibition. Seeds are already planted for my next project.

2. Making snow angels with my little angel.

3. You know I’m having fun when the double chin comes out.

4. Adventures on the Island with tiny and the fam.

5. Baking with tiny using Grandma’s cookbook, circa 1960.

6. Teaching my second ever workshop (food photography ofc).

7. A smol bat.

8. Deconstructed apple pie.

9. Adventures in small-town Ontario with tiny and the fam.

10. Tiny cousins in Toronto.

11. Two besties with very different tastes in books.

12. My favourite flower with my favourite human.

13. A tiny conquering mountains.

14. Favourite things with my favourite people.

15. Little hands and wildflowers.

16. Soulmate.

17. Killer hairstyles.

18. We battled many monsters that day.

19. The world must look infinite to him.

20. My other child, whom I also love very much.

The day I took these photos I needed to be alone. I needed quiet. My heart needed respite and a chance to breathe and feel close to someone I had loved so deeply and had recently lost. I remember stepping out into the cold, bundled up to my nose, the tears leaking out of my eyes quick to freeze. My warm breath spilled forth like a cloud, it's residue freezing in my hair, and all around was nothing but silence and beauty.

Fresh snow blanketed the ground, and the only footprints to mark it's pristine surface were my own. Frost covered each branch and pinecone and blade of grass like icing sugar. Decadent and resplendent and very, very cold. I relished in it.

As I walked, occasionally snow would drift off the many trees in a smattering of sparkles, like faerie dust falling from the branches. The only life I could see were a cheerful banditry of chickadees flitting about playfully. I couldn't help but smile at their carefree joy.

I walked and walked until my cheeks were numb and my feet were sore and I felt held by the quiet. There is no stillness like a solitary winter's day. And in that stillness I'm certain I could feel my angel, still with me. In the joyful chickadees and sparkling frost and perfect snow. In my heart, always.

Part 3/3: I'm utterly obsessed with the drama of this vanilla layer cake contrasting with the burgundy and purple florals against a black backdrop. While assembling this scene, I was really inspired by Dutch Baroque masters (like Rembrandt) to create a simple but beautiful still life. Baking is something that has consistently brought me joy and gotten me out of many creative ruts. And of course, eating the cake always lightens my mood and heart.

Between each layer of light, fluffy vanilla cake, I generously spread strawberry jam and vanilla whipped cream (my favourite). As you'll see swiping through, my little one not only approved of the cake, but also created his own photos of the scene. ♡

Part 1/3: As the New Year rolled around, the truth is I couldn't have been happier to say goodbye to 2024. While there were many beautiful moments that I cherish and it was certainly a year of growth and learning, it was also a challenging year where I experienced multiple heartbreaks. The worst of which occurred just before 2024 came to a close.

From this place of grief and healing and realizing there is so much I need to let go of, I have also realized that I want to spend more time creating art that makes my heart glow — while building a life full of warmth, beauty, love, good food, creative expression and vibrant experiences for my son.

Working from a space of interconnectedness between my art and life, I want to create with joy and expression and a sense of wonder and learning. And I want to reserve this space to share more of that work.

I'll absolutely be continuing my lifestyle and commercial services, but will also be sharing some more of the work that sparks my curiosity here. I'm reopening my print shop, (details to come soon), expanding some of the services I offer, and all around embracing a more authentic, varied photography pursuit.

This shoot was a good example of integrating my passion, the things I love and learning something new. I've always loved baking and cooking and photographing my creations, but stopped a lot of this work when I decided to focus on portraiture. Returning to this space — while diving into floral arranging and stying — was immensely satisfying. While details of the shoot are to follow in my next couple of posts (delineating a clear break in my feed for the sake of ~aesthetic~), swipe to see some of the sweet little bouquets I put together (my first time!) as well as a little BTS from my upcoming reel. (Thanks Mom for being the best assistant, ily 🤍.)

Lovely little moments from the most loving maternity shoot. Spending time with Lorena and Tom is a beautiful reminder of how timeless love is. Their's is a love built to last. The tenderness, the joy, the gentle teasing and easy laughter. Tom and Lorena are the kind of couple that makes your heart happy just thinking about them. From wandering through their beautiful garden to snuggling in the grass, documenting this session was an utter joy. Thank you .bylorena and Tom for your trust in me. ♡

I see you mama.

I see the late nights
you're exhausted because they keep waking up.
I see the late nights
you never get tired of staring into the eyes
that are your entire world.

I see the aching arms
you're sore because they won't let you put them down.
I see the aching arms
you hold on as long as you can
knowing they are growing too fast.

I see the messy bun
you worry you'll never feel beautiful again.
I see the messy bun
you are the most beautiful person in the world to them.

I see the grief for the life you had before
you never realized how much time that girl had to spare
until she became a mother.

I see the grief for the life you had before
you never realized how much love that girl had to give
until she became a mother.

You never knew how much love that girl had to give.
Until she became a mother.

I see you mama.
All of you.

Thank you for this truly magical session with you and sweet baby Jude. You are the gentlest, most radiant mama, and you are raising the gentlest, most radiant little boy. ♡

As Thanksgiving passes and we gather with our families — born into, made, or found — I feel such a deep appreciation for what actually binds families together. From the little day-to-day moments — eating breakfast together, brushing out little ones' teeth, video chatting with loved ones far away — to standing united and facing whatever adversity comes to pass, families are made to weather storms. There is no closer bond than the people who fearlessly look into the unknown alongside you and promise to show up with you no matter what happens.

And while delightful portrait sessions like this one show the playfulness, love and light that families nurture, that unconditional love is forged through choosing our families — our people — every. single. day.

Here's to your family, your people, who wake up and choose you on sunny days and while tempests rage.

And as always, thank you to this beautiful family for trusting me with your portrait session.

Artists' headshots hit different. Scroll through these, take your time. Pay attention to the subtle shifts in .schantz3's facial expressions in each image. I had so much fun photographing Kassandra as she exuded a wronged woman, steely strength, vulnerability, mischievous playfulness and, of course, joy. Just a few emotions in her wide repertoire of expressions and characters.

My son's music teacher and a very talented opera singer, Kassandra is exceedingly patient, genuine and exceptionally warm. It's as delightful attending her music classes with my little guy as it was photographing her. Thank you Kassandra for your trust in me; I'm so excited to watch your career continue to progress.
