Sometimes you have to get a little creative ... Hikes can be a bit 'boring' to contemplate for a toddler. Cue bringing along a soccer ball ⚽ for kicking around post walk 😜 The Ravine Trail is a great trail for toddlers as it's quite short. It's mostly in the forest and takes you past a heritage site, the Annand/Rowlatt Farmstead located within Campbell Valley Regional Park. There are big open grassy spaces, picnic tables, pump water stations and flush toilets. There is also a nature house open during select times.

Great hike to start the summer season. So proud of Henry for hiking close to 5 km - Belcarra park picnic area to Admiralty Point and back, making a stop at Maple Beach for some rock throwing and an ocean dip 🌊

What do you do to keep your toddlers engaged and motivated while on an adventure? Here are a few things we do ... it's an ongoing learning experience. Share yours!

🌿 Play 'I-Spy' - nature style
🎲 Play other games like 'Nature Bingo'
🎀 Sing your favorite tunes
πŸ““Tell stories from your past or make one up (kid friendly of course πŸ€ͺ)
πŸ—¨οΈ Talk with your kiddo ... sounds so simple, but I find my preschooler is so much more engaged to talk when we're out in Momma Nay
βœ‹Engage the senses ... Ask them what they see, hear, smell, feel, and if safe ... taste 😜
🀸Move in different ways ... Climb over a rock, balance along a wood log, tip toe, stomp your feet
🚦Play 'Stoplight' ... Green means 'Go', Yellow means 'Slow' and Red means 'Stop' ... this is great for working on body control, listening and responding and staying within a safe distance while on the trail
πŸ“Show them where you are on Google maps, and the 'finish line' destination of where you're headed
πŸ“Ÿ Count how many steps until ___ (fill in the blank)
πŸ†Talk about a reward or small treat they can look forward to after the hike
🌍 Have something to look forward to at the end of the hike, like a beach to play at, a creek to splash in, a playground etc.
