This Common Yellowthroat (𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴) was photographed early this May at Point Pelee National Park. A very exciting lifer for me! And also the first time I made the trek out to Point Pelee solo!

Northern Flatid Planthopper (𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘮𝘢) - Wallacetown, 2025

This little guy was perched on a blade of grass when my Mom and I walked by him last summer on the trail by our house. At first I thought it was a piece of dandelion, but upon further inspection it was in fact an insect!

Celebrating National Turtle Day with one of Ontario’s most at‑risk species: the Blanding's Turtle (𝘌𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘪).

Blanding’s turtles are endangered in Ontario due to habitat loss and road mortality. These gentle (and beautiful) reptiles play a crucial role in keeping wetlands clean and balanced. Protecting them protects the whole ecosystem.

These guys prefer more moderate temperatures and are mainly found around the Great Lakes region. One Blanding’s turtle can make use of more than a DOZEN different wetlands over the course of a year, using up to more than three kilometres of wetland area! This might not seem like a lot, but for a turtle that's a lot of space!

I don't know if you could call this a "lifer" per se, but it is definitely the first time I've been able to get a good picture of this little guy! I believe it is a North American Least Shrew (𝘊𝘳𝘺𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘢) but I'm not 100% sure.

I was walking behind my mom on our way back from the tip when I paused to photograph an interesting piece of bark. While I had stopped I heard a very high frequency sound...one of my "superpowers" that comes with being autistic is being very sensitive to sounds. I stayed very still to try and see what was making this squeaking, then all of a sudden a dozen of these little balls of speed were running all around my feet! It probably took me 30 minutes of trial and error (and patience) until I got this shot.
