Photography Steven Layton was born and raised in a Raymond, Alberta, Canada. His love for photography extends from nature photography to portraits and weddings.

It was always apparent to others, even before Steven knew it, that he was highly into the arts. Throughout his school years Steven was involved in drawing, singing, acting, choreographing, dance, and music, but it wasn't until he bought his first pro camera that his true talents began to shine. Almost immediately after diving into the photography field, his photos were published commercially for a

project in 2010. Soon after in 2013 Steven took on being the Director of Help Portrait In Lethbridge Alberta. Organizing events, volunteers, and sponsors together to help give free portraits to those who are financially struggling and could otherwise not obtain a family portrait. Steven has prided himself in the ability to take photos of a small town that show off its natural beauty through his artistic view. With a little bit of edge, and his love for lighting, he creates photos that the public adores. It is his personal preference to not to pose his subjects, but rather to promote a fun and friendly atmosphere where he can capture natural, real happiness on print. I recently had the opportunity to create these product images for Old Soul Barbers, a standout local shop producing their own premium hair products right here in Lethbridge.

Their branding immediately stood out — bold illustrations featuring skulls and wolves dressed with attitude, character, and style. It has that rebellious, old-world energy, so we leaned into a rugged, pirate-inspired aesthetic to match the intensity and personality behind the brand.

From the high-impact texture powder shot to the darker, cinematic pomade scene, every detail was designed to reflect that identity. Lighting, props, and textures were carefully chosen to create a raw, timeless feel that complements the grit and craftsmanship of their products.

They make there own hair products here in town. They also do the best hair cuts! Fades! Etc. So make sure to look them up and check them out. This first BTS i am gonna show you I wanted to give off a pirate type theme. So what better song to go with it than the Pirates of the Caribean.

Our daughter officially finished her very first dance course with Exisdance here in Lethbridge! To celebrate, we thought it would be fun to take her first-ever dance photos.

Hannah absolutely loved the idea — so we set up our garage studio into a mini dance set, dressed her up in her adorable outfit, and captured some sweet, joy-filled moments.

Honestly, we weren’t sure how long she’d last under the lights but she completely surprised us with her focus and big smiles (you might’ve caught a glimpse in our BTS video yesterday!).

We’re so proud of her and excited to share a few of our favorites from this session.

When Adam reached out to share how proud he is of his son Dylan and asked if I would capture this special milestone at the Cardston Alberta Temple, I was truly honored. There is nothing more meaningful than preserving moments that reflect hard work, growth, and achievement.

Despite the -18° weather, we bundled up, set up, and preserved timeless memories for Dylan and his family, that they will be able to look back on for years to come. Milestones like these deserve to be documented professionally so the memories never fade.

Paul has been a friend of mine since high school, and anyone who knows him knows he has one of the biggest hearts around. He’s always been the kind of person who shows up, helps out, and puts others first. So when he reached out and told me he was getting married last weekend and asked if I could photograph his wedding, there was no hesitation. It was an absolute honor.

We packed up and headed to Magrath for a beautiful, simple day that was focused on what mattered most to them: family. Paul was clear about what he wanted — meaningful portraits of their kids, the couples, and a full family photo, along with a few great images of the two of them together. I truly think we nailed it.

I’m holding back many of the couple’s portraits so they can share those themselves and surprise everyone, but I couldn’t wait to share a glimpse of this newly married couple and the family portraits we created together.
