I’ll be honest, I’m terrible at taking photos of my van. To me, the van is a tool, just like my camera gear. It’s what gets me to the places where the real magic happens… and lets me enjoy every moment along the way.

A trip to Waterton is always better when I have my little cabin rolling with me. I almost feel guilty about how much comfort I get to bring along, and how easy it makes it to spend the day chasing great shots while completely soaking in the experience.

On November 11th, Remembrance Day here in Canada, I shared this photo in memory of my dad on my other page. This Volkswagen camper van was the last one he owned before he passed away. After he was gone, I pulled it out of storage and spent a week cleaning it up so I could get it ready to sell.

Letting it go broke my heart, but anyone who has owned a VW van knows how temperamental they can be. I just didn’t have the time or energy to keep it on the road and use it the way it deserved. So before I sold it, I took it to a local campground for one last photo shoot.

I’m grateful to have these photos, to remember the van, my dad, and all the good times he had with it… and even the not-so-good times, like the breakdowns, the tow trucks, and the roadside repairs just to get it back home.

These pictures bring back a lot of memories, and I’m thankful for every one of them.

Took my van to the dealer this morning for an oil change. Arrived at the dealer at 59,999. The service tech was laughing that he never had a vehicle come in with those numbers. As I pulled out of the lot my van hit 60,000 k. Wish I had more K's on it from more adventures but I have enjoyed what I have done.

A trip to Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta Canada. Weather. Headed down to Waterton with a daytime high of six degrees Celsius, rain that turned to snow during the day. A perfect day. Even better when you have a van to use as your home base.

It has been a while since I've been out in the van. Two surgeries and a lot of recovering time. Nice to be out this morning. Went for a walk, now resting at the van and having a fresh cinnamon twist and some juice.
