The fall in the Yukon is must...late september the world changes colour...and the The Haines Highway was a route of eye candy....every turn had another fantastis view ...connecting Haines, Junction Yukon to Haines Alasaka following a path used for centuries by the Chilkat Tlingit people and prospectors. Its modern construction began in 1942 as a branch road off the Alaska Highway during World War II to support the war effort and the delivery of warplanes to the Soviet Union. The road follows the historic Chilkat Pass and was built by civilian contractors and the US Army Corps of Engineers, becoming a permanent route after the war. A stop ovet at Million Dollar Falls was great for a lunch break. ...
Million Dollar Falls in Yukon is named after a rumor that a U.S. army maintenance camp, built in the 1940s during the construction of the Haines Road, cost a "million dollars" to build but was never used. This camp included a barracks, officers' quarters, and a 21-toilet bathing facility. even though it was never used
