I had the best time with this gorgeous gal & her sweet family! I always love the feeling of meeting new people who make it feel like we’ve known each other forever. They were all so kind, up for any idea & braved the mosquitoes like champs! We had so much fun together, and I loved getting to capture these!!

The other day, I had a realization about just how important and meaningful the work I get to do really is, and what an incredible gift it is to be trusted with people’s stories.

A few years ago, I had the privilege of taking these photos of Gord around his farm. He was an absolute gem of a human being. During our session, he was incredibly kind, down-to-earth, and genuinely excited to have his photos taken, which made the whole experience so much fun! To this day, it remains one of my favourite sessions I’ve ever photographed.

Recently, I learned that one of those photographs was chosen to honour Gord in his obituary.

For a long time, I’ve questioned whether I was on the right path and often wondered if the work I do truly matters. I’ve spent a lot of time being hard on myself and feeling uncertain about where I’m headed. And in that moment, I realized something beyond that, that this work holds more meaning than I often give it credit for.

Photography isn’t just about creating beautiful images. It’s about preserving people, the places that shaped them, and the stories that deserve to be remembered. I am so lucky that I get to be part of people’s biggest moments, and sometimes those photographs become far more important than any of us could have ever imagined.

I’ve had people cry because they saw themselves in a way they never had before. I’ve watched families laugh together as they look through their galleries. And sometimes, the photographs I create become a way to remember someone who is no longer here.

Being trusted with that is more than a job. It’s an honour, a privilege, and a responsibility I will never take for granted.

To Gord’s family, thank you for allowing me to preserve a small piece of his story. Knowing that one of my photographs was chosen to honour his life means more than I can put into words. It reminded me just how meaningful the work I get to do truly is, and I’m so grateful to have been trusted with these special memories.
