It is still early and if you have a chance get out to see "The Lights". A couple of days ago I had contacted Wally & CJ Smith of Magnetawan and asked if I could stop by and photograph their horses. I drive by their farm at least 10 times a week. I keep seeing all the horse's and a beautiful meadow and just thought that I could take a really nice night shot with the horses and the Milky Way. However, when I went out the other night it was snowing and no Milky Way. I did take some really good horse shots but nothing what I was looking for. This evening I contacted Wally and asked permission again to stop by and of course he said "yes". I let him know that the "Lights" may be out and it could make for an amazing photo of the horses with the "Northerns" in the background. Well, the horse's were way back on the treeline and seemed very content to stay there. So, I ended up doing a panoramic of the farm. The moon as usual was a pain in the behind and took a bit of the glory away from the "Lights". But, it was still magnificent. Only Mother Nature can pull something like this off. Thanks Wally & CJ.

I have been asked if I could post more storm pictures. Here is another that I took before the nastiness began. I was surprised to see some stars along the horizon. Fifteen minutes later the wind totally died as the thunderheads moved in. When the storm arrived I was surprised how slowly the clouds were moving. This allowed me to screw with the settings to capture the effect that I was looking for. If the clouds were moving quickly it would have just been a blurr. Then the rain started to blow in from the side. Time to run like a bunny.🤣

Four (4) years ago today I was back in the swamp with Kelcey. At the time I was thinking about how I can manipulate the light to get the shot I wanted. This is actually one of the early "dual camera" shots I took. It is full of flaws but "hey" yea gotta start somewhere. As a note, this shot was in the "personal" file and never published. Kelcey was our first Newf. He was forever with me in the bush and always had my back. I am not saying that Henry will not be as good in the bush but, he still has a lot to learn. So did Kelcey. Kelcey however had a love of the "limelight". He knew what I was doing and back in those days it took me a long time to set up so he would just wonder into the middle of it all and pose. I had trail cameras set up a little further back but I thought I will come back to get them in a couple of days. Well, 2 feet of snow came in the next night and I was unable to retrieve the camera until the following April. Opps. By the way, the moon had a 'moon dog" around it.

It was a rather cool -12 tonight and to add to the mood, a pack of wolves were howling just a little to the north. This is the old Victor homestead down Nipissing Rd. South heading to Bear Lake. A relative of the original homesteaders is Rick Langford who lives in Bear Lake. Rick is going to provide me with some of the history of the farm and I shall pass along an update when it comes along. Its a very cool old house.

Good morning. For the last couple of nights while walking the Newf's on the trail I have come upon a Partridge or Rough Grouse (which ever you want to call it) roosting up on a branch at eye level. Scared the crap out of me the first time. Rough Grouse have a habit of "exploding" out of cover when you or a dog comes across them. Well, early this morning I decided to bring the camera with me. Sure enough, there he was, sitting on the same branch. I put the light on him and snapped a picture. Then I walked around him and let him be. He was still there when we were on our way home. I guess it was too early for him.

Good morning from "The Mag" (Magnetawan, Ontario). This is actually a photo from about a week ago. What is cool is that it was 7 shots merged together. However, if you look closely, on the ice you will see a faint outline of the reflection of the moon. In one of the "merged" shots that moon was not behind clouds and was much brighter.

The "Lights" were out the other night, however brief. In our area we generally get the greens but every once in awhile the pinks blend in. The picture that I used as the background lasted about 7 minutes and then vanished. On the way home they showed again and I was able to snap off 6 more shots before they vanished...again.

This is why I love the night. One moment the "Northern's" are out and literally, 15 minutes later....poof...they are gone and the Milky Way appears.

Henry and I had a day out together. It has been awhile because since the addition of Marty it has been difficult to get any alone time with the big guy. Its rather funny because Henry was the pup for the longest time. We went down Nipissing Rd south and stopped at a few of my haunts before visiting the old Orange Valley School. In the YouTube video we stopped at a bridge where I do a fair mount of shots. It was by far the best Northern Lights night that I have seen in our area. The shot has never been published because it was selfishly kept in my "private" portfolio. As with most of my photo's it started off with a lot of planning but ended up being an accident. I had set up 7 night lights to aluminate some of the trees. The shot is a culmination of 9 shots. This was all happening while a family of Otters took out my camera and tripod.🤣 I used a lot of foul language as I ran through the bush trying to get to my equipment. Luckily, my tripod and camera landed on my camera bag. I was harassed all night by the family (horde) of Otters. All the time I was trying to think of a foul word that rhymed with Otter, but to no avail.🤣 It was a night to remember. Please be warned, the video is about 15 minutes.
