Let me de-influence you. Don’t be fooled by social media. Socials usually show you the pretty parts. The finished galleries. The happy moments. The clean corners. The accomplishments. You don’t see the messy house. The overstimulated mom.The burnout. The screen time. The reheated coffee. Nobody has it all together. Some of us are just better at posting the parts where it looks like we do.
So, in conclusion… A few fun facts about me that definitely don’t make it onto Instagram:
-I have two kids, 2 & 4 and my house is basically a 24/7 circus. My house is almost always lived-in. Toys everywhere, laundry waiting to be folded, dishes in the sink… you know, the usual.
-I work TWO jobs. Photography is my passion, but it isn’t my only job. And the funny thing is… I genuinely love both. I get asked all the time, “So when are you going to give one up?” And honestly, I don’t know if I ever will. They are such completely different types of work, and I love different things about each of them. Neither is something I’m ready to say goodbye to.
- I am a professional overthinker with absolutely no plans to retire. I overthink. EVERYTHING. My family, my friendships, my jobs, conversations I had three days ago… all of it.
-Burnout is something I experience regularly. Working two jobs while raising two tiny humans doesn’t exactly leave a lot of time to breathe.
-I have endometriosis. It took 6 years of unanswered questions and doctors trying to figure out what was wrong before one finally sent me for an MRI. The results lit up like a Christmas tree.Since then, I’ve had multiple surgeries because of it and was once told that having children was very unlikely for me.
-Sometimes I sit in my car a little longer before going inside because I just need five minutes of silence. I have also hidden in the bathroom for peace and quiet.
-I shop sales, thrift, and wear the same outfits over again. I am not out here buying a new wardrobe every week.
-I’ve been in a constant battle with my weight and my relationship with food and my body since grade school. I’ve lost 40 lbs since having my babies, and physically I’m stronger than I’ve ever been… but that doesn’t mean I magically love what I see in the mirror every day. (But I’m getting there!)
-There are days I feel like I’m absolutely crushing motherhood and days I wonder how I am trusted with two humans where my biggest accomplishment was getting everyone fed, dressed and where they needed to be.
-My kids are not always dressed in cute little outfits. My kids absolutely have meltdowns in public. I have had to bribe my children with snacks and screen time.
-I have absolutely compared my chapter 3 to someone else's chapter 15. I’ve looked at someone else’s success and forgotten how hard I worked to get where I am.
-I can be incredibly grateful for my life and still be exhausted by it at times. I am proud of what I’ve built, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
So If you’re scrolling feeling like you’re behind because everyone else online seems to have it all figured out…
You’re not. 🤍
You’re seeing everyone else’s highlight reel while living in the behind-the-scenes of your own.
Give yourself some grace. You’re allowed to be a work in progress, have messy days, and take a damn break.
You don’t have to have it all together to be doing a good job.
Consider yourself officially de-influenced by Jordan. 😂🤍
