Yesterday I was outside in a t-shirt, feeling like I'd cracked some secret cheat code to Canadian winter. Today, Mother Nature sent a very clear correction email.
Apparently, Wiarton Willie read the same forecast and decided to update his LinkedIn profile to 'Relocating to warmer opportunities.' Smart rodent. Better networking skills than most.
And on St. Patrick's Day of all days, even the luck of the Irish couldn't save us from this forecast. Somewhere out there, a shivering leprechaun is guarding a pot of hot chocolate instead of gold.
As for when Willie's coming back. Let's just say don't wait up because that boy's not returning until hell gets its own Zamboni.

Happy Birthday, Nicéphore Niépce · Father of Photography · Seizer of Light

Before you, the world had no memory of its own face. On this day in 1765, you were born in Chalon-sur-Saône — and sixty years later, in a darkened upper room at Le Gras, you coaxed eight hours of summer sun onto a pewter plate and made the world stand still for the first time. You partnered with the brilliant Louis Daguerre, sharing your secrets of light and bitumen with the showman who would, four years after your death, unveil the daguerreotype to a thunderstruck Paris and receive the glory history so carelessly denied you. No matter. Every photograph ever taken — every face saved from forgetting, every moment pulled back from the dark — begins with you.

You taught light to speak, and the world has not been silent since.

“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”
