I am so used to clouds or smoke appearing any time there is a cool sky event to witness, so it was a thrill yesterday when the skies cleared in time for the partial lunar eclipse, with the potential to see the Northern lights during the peak of the eclipse. To the surprise of no one who knows her, the moment I mentioned it, my mom was down to go on an adventure to watch the sky on a dirt road out of town with me. We packed our chairs, blankets, and warm drinks and headed out to Kane Valley until we found a spot with a clear view. While we didn't see the Northern lights, we had a wonderful time watching the eclipse. So thankful to live where we can still escape light pollution, and I even saw a shooting star for the first time in many moons. 💕

Late this Spring, I was having a tea date with my wonderful senior friend Pat, and during our conversation she was talking so casually about all the volunteerism that she has done and continues to do. It humbled me to hear all the ways she contributes to the community, and the way she spoke of it as though it was nothing significant. We value our time so much that giving it up to help others is very significant, and her beautiful heart humbled me so much! I was still thinking about how I could also give back to the community when my friend Brandi reached out to ask if I would be able to do the soccer photos for the Merritt Youth Soccer Association. I had so much fun taking the kids photos, and laughing as the coaches tried to wrangle the youngest players (comparable to herding cats, truly)! I saw so many parents volunteering their time, patience, and skill to teach and lead the players. So many parents, grandparents, siblings, and others showing up to watch even their practices. It was such an honour to let Brandi know that I didn't want to be paid, and the funds could be set aside to go toward new gear for the teams next year. It is good for the soul to give back, in whatever ways we are given opportunity to. I am thankful for all of the people who unknowingly reminded me how wonderful it feels to pass blessings along in any little way we get the chance to. I got so busy in the garden that I forgot entirely to catch up on here! April was such a beautiful month this year, despite the fluctuating weather, hot one day and windy and cold the next. April is a month I look forward to every year, as the birds start to return, and clumsy wee calves appear in the fields, and things begin to turn greener and fresher as the winter fades away. Help me choose the best shot for April's page in my 2027 calendar! 💕💕💕

Since grad season is upon our wee town again, it feels fitting to share about my truly wonderful and dear friend Michelle. Her son Thomas, her firstborn and one of the loves of her life, graduated last summer. Her planned photographer fell through and she asked if I would be able to head over to Salmon Arm to do the grad photography for her family. She has always believed in me, even when I haven't believed in myself. She has given me encouragement, support, advice, and deep deep belly laughs. She is one of the most generous people I know, and has been such a good friend to me, especially in hard times when I have felt alone. In fact, we first met (over a decade ago) because we were both in a course in Kelowna, and when it was lunchtime she realized that I was heading to lunch alone and invited me to join her and another gal to ensure I wasn't on my own. That was my first impression of her and it led to a friendship I brag about today. So the honour of going to gift grad photos for her and Thomas, and his gorgeous girlfriend Cassie, was such an easy yes! These are some of my favourite captures from that lovely day! The rudely cold weather in May reminded me that I need to share my potential shots for March in my upcoming 2027 calendar. Please vote for the ones you like best to help me choose! March was such a strange month with fluctuating weather, and it gave me quite a variety of winter and spring moments. 💕💕💕

Recently we were at a garage sale (another passion of mine), and we saw this stunning handcrafted antique horse. It was well out of my price range, but my mom knows I want to collect unique props for photography shoots, and she was a stealthy woman and contacted the sellers behind my back. She made them an offer if the horse didn't sell and they were open to a lower price, and that evening asked me to drive her on an errand. We ended up at that same place in the country, had a lovely chat with the owners, and I brought home my new horse, yet to be named (contemplating Pegasus because one of the pegs holding his wheels is loose, and who doesn't have a screw or two loose around here). What an honour to have a mama who believes in me so much that she invests in my dreams. Well Peggy was in my backseat the other night when I was driving my favourite backroad and came across the big herd of ranch horses that are currently up in those hills... it just felt right! 💕

A bit late to share to the options for February in my upcoming 2027 calendar, and while it feels weirdish to be sharing cold snowy shots when the earliest Spring flowers are blooming in my garden, here we are. I met this gorgeous woman, Angela, when we were both asked to join a side project at work to test and evaluate a new software system. I am almost positive that it was after the first session that we messaged each other because we just knew we were instantly friends! She is funny, charming, kind, and incredible at her job. Like seriously, if you need help with a mortgage, she is who I trust my banking needs with! I am so thankful for her friendship, and she has been such a cheerleader for me in my passion for photography. She urged me to do family photos for her, Gord, and their fantastic children a few years ago to get my feet wet and work out my nerves. We went to Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park in West Kelowna, a park I never would have discovered on my own but immediately fell in love with! Chubby squirrels abound, lush trees provide a canopy, the air is so fresh and earthy, and there is no end to pretty spots for photos. Angela's kids, Kaitlynn and Lucas, had us laughing the entire time, and it was the most relaxed and fun afternoon working with them and capturing the close relationship that they all share. Gord is the kind of dad every kid dreams of, giving his kids his full attention and being so present in each moment. The respect shared between this family made me feel so warm and so thankful to have met Angela. Thank you so much for believing in me, dear friend! I am forever blessed to know you, girl! 💕

My first "real" photoshoot was several years ago, when my gorgeous cousin Amanda and her wonderful husband Ray asked me to photograph their maternity pictures for their first child. It was so nerve-wracking but they were so fun and put me at ease and gave me much encouragement throughout our session. I was so unsure of myself as I headed to the city to meet up with them, but Amanda believed in me and it was such a huge honour to do this with her. We were born about a month apart (29 years ago, cough cough) and had such fun growing up with family visits to our grandparents farm. We always began each visit so shyly before becoming glued to each other's side and then begging our parents to let us stay together longer when the visits were over. So fun to look back and see the memories of this photoshoot day now as her first baby is nearly a teenager. Thank you so much Amanda and Ray!! 💕💕💕
