“Living off-grid is not as easy as people make it out to be.”
- Rachel

Mike, Rachel and their children Maya, Lucie and Aubrey live off-grid in Northern Ontario. In the few years that I got to know them I’ve witnessed their lives shaken by change (as it has many times before). Their resilience toward hardship is how they have been able to live a lifestyle that is sustainable to their family and the environment.

They serve themselves and their community by hosting workshops on permaculture, green-building techniques and plant I.D.

Education & contribution.

Two days into the new year, I met Jacob ( ) at his residence in the bleak white fields of Northern Ontario.

He is one of the rare people to own and ride a dogsled team (Alaskan Huskies) in the modern Canadian age. His historical interest and my fervent curiosity has brought us together to create an expedition based project exploring the forgotten practice of travelling the roadless paths of the Canadian north by the means of dog sledding.

This image is part of my photobook project “Father Fisher” based in Gaspésie, Qc.

I was sick, regurgitating overboard as the ship rolled on the tips of oscillating waves when I took this photo. Along with fishermen whom I just met, I voyaged into the vastness of the sea as I witnessed the horizon engulf the land we had just escaped.

I was wondering when it would be our turn to be swallowed whole by the ocean..
