Life at the Egde
I am often very vocal about doing selfies like these. I always see people take ridiculous chances in order to get the Instagram perfect image of themselves when in reality, it’s just not worth it. As sketchy as this looks, I was 1,4 meters aways from the edges which to me was safe enough…but there is much more to this the actual fact that I was 1,4 meters away.

I remember years ago…I went to Jasper National Park and there is a popular touristic view point that has a really cool rock on which people love to stand on for that Instagram perfect shot. The issue with that particular rock is that it is overhanging and not supported underneath. People are literally standing on a rock that is menacing to let go…all this for a social media image. I even told them to not do this because it is dangerous and the rock could break. I was told to mind my own business…seriously! I care for you and you tell me this?

As far as I am concerned, where ever I go on a photography trip, I may or may not take a certain amount of risk for images. I call these calculated risks. I am trying to keep a decent amount of distance between myself and the edges of where ever I am, the canyon in this particular case. I will analyse if the spot I want to stand on is well supported and not overhanging a canyon. If I can’t see properly if the spot is safe, I simply won’t go. I have a wife and two fantastic dogs that would be sad not seeing me back at home…I wont make silly choices for some Instagram fame.

Oh…I almost forgot to mention…I just published a new Blog Article. You should have a it. Not being biased here…but I would say it is a very good read! Link is below.

Land of Legends
We should have a better connection with nature and this wonderful planet. We want to explore other planets for some reasons that might sound weird to a lot of people when in fact most of us only get to explore such a tiny fraction of all this beautiful world has to offer to us…

I don’t know about you but when I captured each of these images, I kept telling myself damn we are lucky! I love nature, I love hiking and I truly love photography. My art has given me the opportunity over the years to explore, the opportunity to witness moments that are too good to be true and I am truly happy to see where this journey is bringing me!

Yesterday was Earth Day…I know, I am one day late but I feel like we should be celebrating Earth every single days anyway. I wish you all a wonderful Earth Day, one day late!🥳

Cinnamon Swirl
Why am I seeing food in every one of my White Pocket linages? I do have a sweet tooth…not going to lie. Right now is morning for me so maybe it is because I am hungry? 😋

After a pretty cold night of winter camping in the middle of the desert, I woke up and quickly put on my clothes. It’s not fun to get dressed when it’s that cold outside and you also need to use the washroom! When I was ready, I got out of my tent, I was seeing frost everywhere on the vegetation, on my tent, also on the rental Jeep. Everything was covered with a decent layer of frost. No wonder why my 0 degree celsius sleeping bag wasn’t warm enough! As a landscape photographer, dedication is often required to get the shots! 🥶

As soon as I started walking and moving, I instantly started getting warm. I had a pretty good idea where I wanted to photograph sunrise since I had preciously explored the area before... And trust me, that morning’s sky was looking so promising. Was it going to catch some colours? I got my camera out and waited for dawn to begin. When it begun and the sky started catching some colours, I was literally running like a headless chicken. The whole sky ignited, I could literally point my camera in every directions and get colours above every compositions. It was a wild sunrise… All of a sudden, I was sweating like a pig!😂

Desert Icon
I am not going to lie, this place is iconic… As a non local photographer, I have visited Mesa Arch probably around 20 times which could almost be considered a surprising accomplishment to many. I have seen it in almost every possible conditions one can imagine. I have photographed it from so many different angles and perspective that it does look different on every image.

If I go back in time, on the very first few visits over ten years ago, I was able to enjoy it all by myself. Things have change over the years and Mesa Arch became so popular. Can we blame social medias for this? Very likely…is it a good reason to avoid going? I still think no.

In February 2026, Gina was visiting South West USA for the very first time. I wanted to show her a wide variety of different landscapes. I wanted to show her a bit of everything. And even though she wasn’t to keen on visit crowded areas, I made sure to bring her there to witness one sunrise. Why? There is a reason why the Eiffel Tower is iconic, there is a reason why Machu Picchu is iconic, there is a reason why the Taj Mahal among many other locations to be iconic…because we must see them at least once in our life! A Mesa Arch sunrise is an experience one will never forget because it is simply iconic!

Contortionist Twist
First let’s talk about before I actually made it there…we were in the middle of nowhere. There was a questionable trail right next to our campground and there was a sign clearly stating high clearance vehicle required because of extreme deep sand conditions. Okay, this got our attention! It’s like they didn’t want us to go…but just like kids, when the parents say to not do something, we do it anyway. We went downhill in some impressive sandy conditions for a few kilometers until we reached the actual trailhead, parked there and started the hike…

We could clearly see where we were heading but the trail was basically invisible. AllTrails was definitely going to be a must use in order to make it out of there safely in the dark after sunset…we were walking and walking to a point that I was seriously questioning whether or not it would be worth it. I don’t mind walking for hours but I want a reward at the end…was I going to be rewarded this time? As we were getting closer, the landscape was not looking photography worthy until we made the last couple left turns and came face to face with this…it took me a few long minutes to take in what was happening there.

This whole scene has seriously broken every rule of what should be possible. Curves on top of curves with multiple layers of white and red…it was exactly as if someone twisted a towel in every possible way except that what ever was twisted here was a giant multi layered slab of sand stone. There were thousands little sandstone fins stacked all together…they were just like potato chips. I was being extremely careful to not step onto fragile chips! I don’t know about you but for me, there is nothing I hate more than a bag of broken chips. All those lines leading to a few cool rock formations…🤯

So was all the effort worth it? I’d say yes it was! The way out of there though will be for another story…🤣

Thin Orange Line
I have a love hate relationship with Norway…I know exactly what you are going to say. Why a love hate relationship? My first time in Norway was in January of 2023. I went right in the middle of winter to photograph nothing else but winter. What did I get? I got rained on day after day after day. Their was a little bit of snow in Senja but barely anything everywhere else. In January of 2024, I had other plans and couldn’t make it to Norway. Guess what, winter was lovely in January. On this observation, I simply told myself that I was only unlucky the previous year so I went back at the end of February 2025. There was snow on the first two days only! Why only the first two days? The weather got super mild and all the snow melted in just a couple hours. Wow…again? No snow in Norway? I was almost tempted to go in 2026 but did not. Norway got hit by some serious winter storms and it was once again looking like winter but while I was far away from there. 🙁

I can think of two different reasons for this. It could either be that I am super unlucky or simply that Norway does not like me! 😂 I am not going to lie, I am almost scared to consider a trip to Norway next winter. Do you believe in the expression Third Time’s a Charm? So in the end, you can look at this image thinking it was captured in the month of April or May but no, that’s literally a winter image captured deep in winter season but it wants to be something else I guess. On a positive note, the light throughout my second trip to Norway was absolutely gorgeous. We got a little bit of stormy weather but for the most part, it looked like this which isn’t too bad photographically speaking.

Image captured with my EOS R5 and RF 15-35mm f2.8 at 23mm, 0.3 second, f11 and ISO 200. I also used a KW Revolution 3 stop Neutral Density filter to slow the exposure time a bit.

Last Minute Deal
You are probably going to wonder why I named this one Last Minute Deal? Keep reading…the story is quite funny.

You’ve probably seen images of an explosive sunrise at White Pocket in my portfolio? This sunrise just so happened to be the one from the same day as we drove out of Vermillion Cliffs all the way to Moab. I would have stayed longer there but we had to move on to the next location. The drive is long, we are talking about almost 7 hours and it’s only highway driving so definitely not the most interesting one to do. Then we arrived to Moab. Both Gina and I were hungry. The intelligent thing to do was to stop to get some food and then check-in at out hotel.

But the photography passionate inside me said we should go photograph some rocks because photography is more important right? 🤔 How much time was left before sunset was kind of a mystery because we had conflicting time information. We weren’t sure if we had switch time zone. The rental car said a different time than my phone…which was right? And the sky was looking like everything but promising. After looking at weather forecast, I opted to go to Turret Arch. I told myself if we have a very slim chance of colours, this could be the place to be!

The walk is fairly short, it was funny to see Gina face when she was looking at these giant arches. Then we made it to Turret Arch. I spotted this nice piece of dead tree, setup my camera and started to photograph the scene. After viewing the first couple frame on my camera, I noticed some colour in the sky and I was sure a bunch of artifacts on the images when in fact it was the sky starting to light up! It lasted only a handful of minutes but it was very welcome. And we were at THE only spot where the sky caught colours…talk about luck!

Mars Overlook
I seriously can’t help myself but to play the soundtrack from the movie Interstellar when I edit images from my latest trip to Utah. You may ask why? All these locations truly feel as if I was on another planet. It’s actually a weird feeling. Being surrounded by surreal rock formations and being all by yourself for such an amazing sunrise? Simply priceless to me!

This location does require a little bit more effort than driving 5 minutes and walking 100 metres away from the car too. It is in fact in the middle of nowhere! And in order to be there for when ever the good light pops without having to drive some questionable sandy roads in total obscurity, I camped there a couple nights. That’s right…winter camping in a tent and an underrated sleeping bag just to get a few images of a big fire ball raising over the horizon! That’s some dedication right here! Was it worth it? Oh yes…in fact, I will probably do it again next year!

Thinking of going to South West anytime soon? I just released a Blog Article that covers a few often under-looked points that are super important for both your safety and the desert’s well being. Click on the link below and have a look! Not trying to sound biased here, I am telling you, it’s a good article!😂

Once Upon a Time in Utah…
We live in a tech driven world…a world where people are rushing to go to work on their daily schedule, spending hours stuck in traffic weekly, to come back home to do chores, shopping for grocery and goods in order to be able to go through the incoming week…repeating every steps for the rest of their life. We are kinda forced into such a life if we want to be able to buy nice things, a house, scholarship for our kids…

There’s always that person that will tell you why do you travel? Why do you spend money on something that will be gone for ever when you get back home? Really? That’s your opinion of travelling? It used to be mine as well…

As far as I can tell, travelling is when I disconnect from reality to a point I forget which day of the week it is today…it is the time when I can look at the sky and breath fresh air without thinking about this mad world we live in at the moment…and I get to do it in such a way that I can immortalize every moments with my camera. If that ain’t worth anything to some people, to me it’s simply priceless! It’s absolutely essential! This was the last sunset of a two and a half weeks trip to South West USA, a trip in which I had opportunities to meet more awesome people, hiked hundreds of kilometers, saw countless epic locations, brought back home thousands of memories and a completely rejuvenated soul!

Good Ole Days
Some of the locations I visited over the years left such amazing memories to me. I camped there with a good friend years ago. Ever since 2014, I promised myself every year that I would go back and never did…until just recently.

When Arwin asked me if I wanted to camp there for two nights, it was a no brainer for me that the answer was heck yes! The more the better! You have to stay more than just one night at Toroweap to fully enjoy the experience. Imagine driving over two hours on gravel and sandy roads until you reach the ranger station…then driving an extra couple kilometers of pretty severe conditions where you absolutely need a high clearance vehicle. A Nissan Rogue won’t make it through this last part… Then finally make it to the very primitive campground to setup your tent. There is no tap water, there is no electricity and sure no cellular service, just you and the canyon. THE perfect place to disconnect from reality. You can’t put in all this effort only for one night? Right?

I had an image in mind…an image I wished I captured back in 2014. I had been dreaming about this little baby tree since 14 years, hoping to go back every year… The first day was truly grey. The second day started with some rain and grey clouds. As the day progressed, the sky did loosen up a bit but at the end of the day, the sky was still very heavy. It was stormy and rain curtains could be seen in the distance. I was almost sure we wouldn’t get anything but a moody sky but rain or shine, I will always be out and get the most out of every opportunities. After a while, the light was dimming down. You could tell that sunset was happening. I was almost decided to give up and started packing my stuff when all of a sudden, we had a very brief little hint of colours. It lasted a few very short minutes…I didn’t even have time to film a story video! You don’t believe me? Ask Arwin!🤪
