The Windmill Greenhouse in Moose Jaw is a little gem off the beaten path. Sandy and Maurice, along with their grandkids and additional staff, run this business built on hard work and attention to detail.
I had the pleasure of photographing their place alongside for upcoming advertising.

That time I got up at 4:30am to photograph the crew at Maple Leaf Bakery. They were well into the morning shuffle when I showed up. The smell of the baked goods was flooding out the door, the warm oven air causing condensation on all the glass, and a crew working quietly and quickly to get all the orders done. As the sun came up, the daily lineup of customers formed outside the front door. I did my best to stay out of the path of the workers, stealing a second here and there to grab a portrait. Amazing people. What a business they created! And a special tradition in Moose Jaw.
The owners have since retired and new owners have taken over the reigns. It’s hard grind, the life of a baker. My hats off to all the bakers out there.

A selection of behind the scenes setups from past projects. This adventure I’m on takes me to many fun places, but the best part is getting to tell the stories of the people I work with. Many more stories to come.

These are a few images from a recent branding shoot with Century 21 Dome Realty to create portraits they can use throughout their online and print media. Capturing both environmental and studio images gives professionals options in how they wish to portray their image, depending on the occasion.
When I sit down with clients for an initial conversation, they often aren’t sure of what they are needing or wanting. We work together to identify their needs. Then I develop a visual concept designed to speak to their audience. These conversations and detailed planning including locations, wardrobe, angles, lighting, etc all contribute to a final product that is designed not only to generate new business for my clients, but also to strengthen their brand.
In the end my clients often say they had thought they just wanted a photo shoot, but they got a full partnership with me from beginning to delivery. It’s all about custom designed content that impacts your audience.

again through the city streets. I enjoy working with clients who have trained in dance. There’s a confidence and openness to the camera that dancers develop over their years of training. In the previous post you see Jazz in her ballet dress during this same shoot. She did great, I really didn’t need to direct her at all. She just turned on the charm.
Jazz and her mom asked for her to be photographed throughout the streets of Moose Jaw. My style of portrait photography is to use the location to set the tone and mood of the image, but not to have it dominate my subject. I put my subject as the primary element in an image. So when clients ask to be photographed in specific locations I always let them know that the exact location may not be recognizable, but it will set the scene around them. This has been my method for getting portraits that my clients connect with.

asked me to photograph her through the streets of town, starting in her ballet dress. She’s an accomplished dancer, with her future all planned out. Between performing for the camera in challenging scenarios, and telling me all about her educational and career goals (with still another year of secondary school), I am thoroughly impressed. Here she is in both posed and candid moments. The life of a dancer, switched on and switched off.

Little Miss Maddi. She’s got a sparkle in her eyes, this one. Her mom and I thought it would be great to get her in the studio for some portraits, and as I fully expected, Maddi illuminated. She’s got a very bright future.
