Well, it was nice to finally get out and say hello to the Aurora again! 💚🌌 And while last night’s show was a little on the quiet side, it had a pretty cool bonus… proton aurora! 🤩
That green blob above the regular Aurora is proton aurora, caused by charged protons from the solar wind interacting with Earth’s atmosphere.
The regular Aurora is mainly caused by charged electrons interacting with the atmosphere, creating those familiar dancing curtains and rays.
So, basically: protons = blobs, electrons = dancing lights. 😂
