Warm-up on Lake Windermere this am. Fletch and I made a quick stopover on the way up to Fort Saskatchewan for a game tonight- a true Hockey Day in Canada for us and a great way to kick off family weekend together. To top it off, his team took down Montana 9-8.

After thirty years of beer league hockey tonight's 0-0 tie was a first for me. Ice was tilted so it felt like a win. Team is gelling. Goalie stood on his head. Beers were cold. Basement team reborn and so far undefeated in playoffs. I'm proud to be part of this Warriors squad- an amazing tribe of humans, none of whom are afraid to go to the dirty areas, in the corners, or even away to Mexico just when we need them. The best part about an already fulfilling night? My son left a bowl of late-night Vector for me out on the counter! .ca

The summer trip! This time we pulled out all the stops and the final one was Gwaii Haanas National Park. Ten days of paddling is good for hitting the reset button.

The best!

Brasil is the place to go for jaguars and all manner of colourful birds. This fall is again visiting this diverse South American country. Wildlife is off the charts but the buffet lunches at the jungle lodges (and gas stations) are pretty unreal, too! Some of the most diverse forests on the planet are found in the Atlantic region around Sao Paulo. And the locals are so friendly.

Second part of Colombia trip late winter! This was my fourth time to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the most cushy. We could see the glaciers that myself, .sayers and Ptor skied on a previous trip and some taxi drivers in Santa Marta (pop. 500,000) even remembered it going down. This time and I visited the nearby Perijá Mtns on the border with Venezuela, areas around Valledupar (home of vallenato music) for ultra elusive birds, and again to Tayrona and the newly renovated El Dorado Lodge. Despite searching for wildlife and jungles, the highlights for me were the heat, the cold beer and micheladas, the oh so friendly locals and the dry tropical forests. Thanks to for showing us around!

Colombia birding and touristic ventures part 1 of 2: Vaupés Region. and I went down there in late winter for a blast of heat and biodiversity. We were rewarded with copious amounts of both! If you want to explore seemingly endless rainforest Mitú is the perfect destination. Thanks to Miguel Aguilera for showing us around his community and home.

It was a year ago today Casey and I jammed into the trams from Chamonix Village to the top of the Aiguille du Midi. 40cm of fresh, bluebird skies, 2700m of vertical and one of the pics in my last post.

It was twenty years earlier that I first visited Chamonix. It’s a cliche to say a lot has changed (including the glacier receding more than 200 metres vertically) but for an 11-yr old everything is new and awesome. Great to travel with family friends and and to stay at my cousin’s house!

Getting to meet was frickin’ cool!
