More photos of Kim and Lochlan ❤️
I’ve been taking photos as part of my work for a few years now, but I’ve always been hesitant to call myself a photographer. I bought my first camera in 2016 off a teenage boy through Facebook Marketplace. We met at a skytrain station in East Vancouver, and he sold the little beat up camera to me with the memory card (accidentally) still in it — photos of him and his buddies skateboarding including one of him smoking a cigarette. He begged me not to share them as he didn’t want his mom finding out (lol). I didn’t even look through, of course I deleted them.
With this camera, I started taking photos voluntarily at the jobs I had at the time (mostly on farms). Eventually, that evolved into photo-taking becoming part of my paid roles.
Over time, my style and focus have shifted and are still very much evolving. I don’t have one clear niche that defines my creative work, but over the past few years, I’ve found a lot of reward and gratitude in documenting families. There’s something really special about capturing authentic, timeless images that could be treasured for generations. In an era of constant smartphone use, preserving memories in this way feels different, and I’m totally drawn to it.
Thanks again to Kim and Lochlan for trusting me to document you, and happy 10 years of love. ❤️
