As my inbox has been getting flooded with interest and questions ( YAY ) i figured a FAQ would sum up the most common questions ive been receiving.
STRANGER SESSIONS - FAQ
Q: Where do the sessions take place?
A: Sessions will be held in public outdoor locations around Pictou County. Depending on availability, weather, and what vibe we’re going for, locations may include: Salt Springs/Green Hill area, River John/Pictou, New Glasgow area, Hopewell, or Merigomish. The specific location will be shared with both participants once you’re matched. All sessions are in public spaces for safety.
Q: What exactly happens during a stranger session?
A: You’ll meet your match and me at the chosen location. I’ll guide you through the session with prompts and activities to help break the ice—nothing forced or uncomfortable. We’ll capture genuine moments as you two get to know each other. Sessions are relaxed, fun, and low-pressure. Think of it like hanging out with a new person while I happen to be taking photos.
Q: How do you match people?
A: I carefully review every questionnaire and match based on personality, interests, energy levels, age preferences, and what you’re hoping to get out of the experience. I’m looking for compatibility and good vibes—people who I think will genuinely enjoy meeting each other.
Q: What if it’s super awkward or we don’t click?
A: Awkwardness is part of what makes these sessions so authentic and beautiful! Some of the best photos come from nervous laughter and genuine first-meeting energy. You’re not expected to fall in love or become best friends—just be present and open to the experience. Even if there’s no “spark,” you’ll walk away with great photos and a unique story.
Q: Is this a dating service?
A: No! This is a photography session first and foremost. While I’m thoughtful about matching, I’m not a matchmaker or dating service. What happens after the session (staying in touch, becoming friends, dating, or just saying “nice to meet you”) is completely up to both of you. I have no expectations or guarantees about outcomes.
Q: Can I bring a friend or have someone with me for safety?
A: The session is designed to be just you, your match, and me (the photographer). However, I completely understand safety concerns. All sessions take place in public locations during daylight hours. You’re welcome to have someone you trust nearby (not in the session itself) they are welcome to tag along with me while i capture your photos, if that makes you more comfortable. You’ll also provide an emergency contact on your application.
Q: What if the other person cancels or doesn’t show up?
A: If your match cancels with notice, I’ll work to find you a new match or reschedule. If someone no-shows without communication, you won’t lose your spot or fee—I’ll make it right.
Q: Do I get to approve photos before you post them?
A: No. Part of agreeing to a stranger session is consenting to all photos being used for my portfolio, social media, and marketing. This is clearly stated in both the application and contract. If you’re not comfortable with your photos being shared publicly, stranger sessions aren’t the right fit for you.
Q: When will I receive my photos?
A: You’ll receive your edited images within 2-3 weeks via an online gallery where you can download and share them.
Q: What happens after the session—do you give us each other’s contact info?
A: Not automatically. Your contact information stays private unless BOTH of you express interest in connecting. If you both want to stay in touch, I can facilitate an introduction. Otherwise, you part ways with great photos and that’s perfectly fine!
Q: I’m really shy/nervous. Is this still for me?
A: YES! Being a little nervous is completely normal and honestly makes for the most genuine, beautiful photos. You don’t need to be outgoing or comfortable in front of the camera. I’ll guide you through the whole thing, and your match will probably be nervous too. That shared vulnerability often creates the best connections.
Q: Can I request to be matched with a specific gender or age range?
A: Absolutely. The questionnaire asks about your preferences for age range and gender(s) you’re open to meeting. I’ll do my best to honor those preferences when creating matches.
Q: What’s the $30 fee for?
A: The $30 entry fee covers my time, travel, and ensures that participants are serious and committed to showing up. You’re also getting professionally edited photos delivered to you within 2-3 weeks.
Q: How many spots are available?
A: Limited spots for the first round! Once I have enough quality applications, I’ll close submissions and start matching. If you’re interested, apply as soon as the questionnaire goes live.
