Bernice MacDonald PHOTOGRAPHY

Bernice MacDonald PHOTOGRAPHY I have been photographing Nature for over thirty years and love it more and more each day. I hope you enjoy and share these images with your friends.

From sunrises over the West RIver in my backyard, to sunsets at the shore, I greet each morning with the wonder of what the light will bring me today and what surprises Mother Nature will reveal.

“Where the maples dance”. Last week on Eigg Mountain. It seems as though the center maple is holding up her dress to dance with her partner under a golden canopy. Share if you like!

It’s THAT time of year again where every turn in the road presents us with incredible scenes of Autumn. Gaspereaux Lake is one of my very favourite stopping places, early or late in the day. Thank you Willie Stewart for the shout out from across the road! Share if you like! (Watch for this and many other new images at the Lochaber Community Center craft sale - details to be announced.)

Into the Autumn matrix. An ICM image (two exposures, panned in different directions ) of some sumac shrubs along the side of the road in St. Joseph's. This technique is a lot of fun to explore as the possibilities are endless. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Share if you like!

I sure am hoping to get back to the land of the bright red mud soon.

From the land of the bright red mud, Prince Edward Island. Scenes like this are everywhere on the Island right now as farmers are planting their fields. The symmetry is good for my ordered mind! Prints are available - Share if you like!

Time to play. In-Camera Double Exposure ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) of my lilac tree. So much fun to experiment with these techniques. These would make great large canvas prints. Share if you like!

Cold, clear mornings send me to the river. From the kitchen window I saw the mist rising up from the riverbank about 20 minutes before sunrise. Pulling on the nearest pair of boots and a warm coat I headed across the lawn to the edge of the bank. The mist was beginning to rise and frost the trees nearest the water and the light was cold and bluish. I took a few photos then decided to use the path to my neighbors property to get a different angle and wait for the sun to come up. I found myself deep in a drift with short boots full of snow and no socks! Then the sun sent a beam up through the ice crystals near the horizon and I knew I couldn't leave. When the warm light reached the mist I forgot I even HAD feet. I'll wear the tall boots tomorrow.

The below-zero temps have caused the ice to form at Pomquet Cove. As I walked along the frozen shore at sunset, the sounds of ice snapping and cracking as it moved was startling. In this area there was still an open channel meandering along, but further out there were people fishing smelts through the ice already. The post-sundown blue hour highlighted the textures and colours in the water and ice. A beautiful calm evening. Share if you like!

When the wind has been high from the south east all night, and you find a willing accomplice, a trip to Tor Bay, NS is in order. We lucked out when the sun tried to break through the cloud, producing a most magical lighting situation. The sound of the breakers crashing onto rocks and rolling up the beach was mesmerizing. Hard to pull away when every wave seems more spectacular than the last. Share if you like!
