One of the things I love most about capturing images of wildlife is being able to appreciate the details that may get missed when you’re quickly viewing them.

For example, if asked to describe a Gadwall I would have never made note of the rusty wing patch.

The Dovekie or “Little Auk” is the smallest of the North Atlantic auk family measuring 8-9 inches long. Some can be found wintering on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland although many remain further north in the Arctic Circle.

They are very difficult to distinguish physically from an American Crow, but can be identified by their more nasal call
