It’s funny how life works out.
Story time…
When I was growing up, I wanted to be an actress. Actually, first I wanted to be a storm chaser, but my dad informed me that would require being exceptional at math and science… so that dream quickly went out the window. Anyway, back to acting. I wanted to sing, dance, and perform on stage, but I never thought I was good enough. So instead, I decided to pursue a dream behind the camera.
I’ll never forget the day I got my acceptance letter to one of the best film programs in Canada. Honestly, I didn’t think I’d get in. In my first year, I went all in on audio—recording, sound design, sound theory, you name it. And to this day, I stand by this: you can have the most stunning visuals in the world, but without a soundscape, it’s just... nothing.
After graduation, I interned and eventually landed a job at a post-sound house in Toronto. Learned a ton. But guess what? Doubt crept in again, and I eventually wandered off the path I thought I was supposed to be on.
Fast forward to the day I decided to take a massive leap of faith and put everything on the line to start my own business doing what I actually love. I merged my two passions: film and sports.
There was just one tiny problem. Audio? Confident. Camera work? ...Not so much. I mean, I didn’t think I’d need it. I didn’t take lighting classes, barely touched camera after second year, and don’t even get me started on editing. So pretty much everything I’ve learned since has been self-taught. (Don’t tell my parents… I swear film school was relevant, guys.)
Now here’s the funny part. A few weeks ago, two dear friends from college reached out. They both work on the creative side of a marketing agency and asked me to help out on a commercial shoot featuring a hockey player taking slap shots at a pane of unbreakable glass. The point of this whole story? Everything comes full circle. So don’t stress. Enjoy the moments.
A huge thank you to (how’s Henry??) and (CHECK YO FILM, JOEL) for having me on set.
