This weekโ€™s Super Mic is pretty much exactly how I want every Super Mic to run. The comedians came prepared. I myself had some new bits that feel like they showed promise. There was a small but attentive audience.โฃ

Super Mic, as a show, is something special, and I love hosting it.โฃ
โฃ
Setting up my camera and shooting the comedians actually feels like a no-brainer now. I really do enjoy shooting this show just as much as I enjoy hosting it.โฃ
โฃ
The tripod ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜บ helps. I get a bunch of different subjects all doing the same thing, yet thereโ€™s so much range in how much the acts moveโ€”even on a small stage. Some move fast, some stand completely still. Deciding when to hit the record button is such a fun challenge. It also makes me really self-aware of my own movement on stage. Cool stuff.โฃ

This week wasnโ€™t wild, but it was solid. Definitely a tough one with the smaller audience. When comedians are performing for comedians, the laughs can be a little scarceโ€ฆโฃ

From a photography standpoint, it was a grind. Dialing in the right camera settings took some trial and error. Jumping on stage between comics meant I had these short windows to tweak things and figure out what actually worked. By the end of the night though? I finally felt locked in.โฃ

So just like this weekโ€™s show, these shots were more of a rough practice run โ€” learning, adjusting, leveling up.โฃ

Wednesday night was a smooth one. A world of difference from the fiasco that was last weekโ€™s Wednesday Super Mic. The audience rotated throughout the night, but everyone who caught a piece of the show seemed to genuinely enjoy it.โฃ

None of the comedians abused their timeโ€”which I loved. Even better, everyone came prepared. Folks either polished up their tried-and-true jokes or worked out some new ones. There was none of that โ€œ๐˜š๐˜ฐโ€ฆ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ฌ ๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ต?โ€ ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ’ฉโฃ

I also started using my big boy camera to film my sets. After I introduced and opened the show, I was already set up to snap a few photos of some of the acts.โฃ

I donโ€™t get enough practice shooting with my tripod while Iโ€™m on the road, but Iโ€™ve done it on my last two outings and the results have been great.โฃ
