Did you know baby owls climb trees when they leave the nest? This is a baby Barred Owl, who was born inside a tree cavity. He didn’t have enough time to exercise. His muscles are grow feathers so when he leaves a nest false the forest floor and have to climb trees to safety.

Along parts of the U.S. West Coast, Barred Owls are being located by the sound of their own hoots. Many never see it coming. When mom and dad are removed, babies can be left orphaned and alone.

I told this owl her beauty was overwhelming, I wasn’t wrong. 🦉✨

Meet this beautiful mother Barred Owl.

Last year, she raised three owlets. One of them didn’t survive. We named him Little Hop, after the way he hopped through the forest like a tiny game of hopscotch. Despite his mother’s devotion, nature can be heartbreaking.

This year, her nest is empty.

People say, “It’s just an owl.”

But she wasn’t just an owl.

She was a mother.

A wild heart that spent months protecting, feeding, and loving her babies.

When you spend enough time with wildlife, you realize their stories matter too. 🦉💔
