This has been on my mind for a while, and I think it’s finally time I say something.
Recently, I came across a wedding publication sharing AI-generated images instead of featuring the work of the incredibly talented vendors in the very city they’re meant to be celebrating. Around the same time, I saw Amy • Wedding and Event Photographer in Ottawa speaking out about AI and its impact on our industry, and it made me realize this is my moment to speak up too.
So here it is.
My photos will never be AI.
Not because I’m against technology - it has its place - but because I believe weddings deserve to be documented exactly as they happen.
No computer can recreate the way your partner looks at you when you walk down the aisle. It can’t predict your grandma bursting into laughter during speeches, your friends losing it on the dance floor, the wind catching your veil at just the right moment, or the tears, hugs, and little in-between moments that make your day yours.
And it certainly can’t replace the incredible work of the vendors you’ve hired. The florals, the stationery, the tablescape, the cake, the dress, the styling - these are all created by real people who deserve to have their work documented as it truly was.
Something else that’s been bothering me is that AI is creating a lot of unrealistic expectations. It’s becoming harder to know what’s real online, and I worry couples are being inspired by images that were never actually possible to create on a wedding day.
If you’re planning your wedding, don’t just save pretty photos from Pinterest or Instagram. Go to the vendors’ websites. Scroll through full galleries. Ask questions. Have conversations. Make sure the work you’re falling in love with is work they’ve actually created.
At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t meant to look like an AI prompt.
It’s meant to look like you.
Messy, joyful, emotional, beautiful, and completely real.
And that’s exactly what I’ll always be there to photograph.
