Still thinking about last week’s Politics and the Pen Gala ✨

I had the chance to photograph the evening in the beautiful ballroom at the Fairmont Château Laurier, and it really was one of those events you feel lucky to be part of.

There’s something special about a room filled with politicians, writers, and leaders from across the country, all coming together in support of the Writers’ Trust of Canada and the stories that shape how we see the world.

A few moments that really stayed with me were seeing Prime Minister Mark Carney in attendance, guests being ushered into the ballroom for dinner by a bagpiper (such a memorable and unique moment), and hearing Maggie Helwig accept the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize. Her speech was incredibly powerful.

The evening was hosted by Evan Solomon and Melissa Lantsman, who brought such a great balance of energy and thoughtfulness to the night.

I’m always grateful for opportunities like this, to document meaningful moments and be in rooms I wouldn’t otherwise get to experience.

Authenticity was the priority from the start.

The team at Waterman Sales wanted headshots that felt cohesive but never uniform. Images that reflected who each person is, while still sitting beautifully together.

We moved through different areas of the studio, leaning into what felt natural for each individual rather than forcing a single look across the board.

The result is a collection that feels both polished and personal.

NONNA’S KITCHEN

There is something sacred about a kitchen.
It’s where hands of different generations touch the same dough.
Where recipes are taught without words.
Where stories are told and retold.
Where grief and joy sit at the same table.
Where ordinary afternoons quietly become the moments we miss the most.

One winter afternoon, I had the honour of stepping into “Nonna” Maria Varsace’s kitchen, the true heart of her family. She was surrounded by her granddaughters and her great-granddaughter as they baked focaccia together, shared cake and coffee, and slowly flipped through old photographs that carried decades of memories.

I keep thinking about how grateful I am that this family chose to pause time, even for a little while. To gather. To bake. To remember. To be together. The flour on their hands. The way they leaned into each other. The softness in Nonna’s smile. The way everyone looked at her, with so much love and admiration.

These are the moments that become everything later on.
These are the images that turn into heirlooms.
These are the memories that carry people forward when someone they love is gone.

Since that day, Nonna Maria has passed away. 🤍

This post is in loving memory of Nonna Maria Versace, on what would have been her 90th birthday.

Your kitchen held your legacy.
And your legacy lives on in every woman around that table. 🕊️✨

My first session of 2026 brought me back to Queensway Carleton Hospital, and honestly, what a way to kick off the year. 🤍

I had the opportunity to photograph QCH Foundation’s newest leadership team member, Mr. John Ouellette, Vice President of Strategic Philanthropy, and then tag along on his hospital tour with Dr. Andrew Falconer, President & CEO of Queensway Carleton Hospital, and Shannon Gorman, President & CEO of the QCH Foundation.

One of the coolest parts of my job is getting an insider look at spaces most people never see, and meeting the incredible people who make a place like this run… quietly, thoughtfully, and with so much heart.

QCH is our community hospital. Being trusted to document moments, people, and stories here is something I don’t take lightly. Grateful to be behind the camera for work that truly matters.

The lighting wasn’t perfect.
The location wasn’t ideal.
The outfits weren’t coordinated.

But none of that mattered. Not for this session.

When Jenna and I first spoke about photographing her family, her dad had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of dementia. As she explained what she hoped for, she said something that stopped me in my tracks: she wanted photos for him, not in memory of him.

And that changed everything.

This session wasn’t about looking back. It was about now. About presence. About connection. About capturing her dad as he is, surrounded by his girls.

Music was woven through every moment. Mr. Machum was a piano teacher, and sitting at the piano, playing, talking about music, brought something alive in him. If you scroll through the gallery, you’ll notice it in the quiet details: his fingers tapping along to an unheard rhythm as he spoke to his daughters. Muscle memory. Love. Identity.

These aren’t perfect photos.
They’re honest ones.
And sometimes, that matters so much more. 🤍
