POV: I just found out you’re not backing up your photos. 😐
My college lecturer said something in 2012 that lives in my head rent free to this day:
“A photo doesn’t exist if it isn’t in 3 places.”
I lost a hard drive in 2014. He was right. Thank god I listened.
Here’s the thing - us photographers treat backup as a business expense and just plain business sense. But what about the rest of us and our treasured memories? Are we just... hoping nothing happens to our phone? Trusting iCloud and crossing our fingers?
I’ve watched friends lose photos of their newborns. Their weddings. Selfies with people who aren’t here anymore. 💔
So let me ask you something.
Where are your photos right now? Are they backed up? And if your hard drive stopped working tomorrow, what would you do?
Because hard drives break. That’s not a if, that’s a when.
The good news? There are services out there - some free, some cheap, some crazy expensive, that can keep your photos safe. You might even already be paying for one and not know it. And yes, even a private Facebook album counts as a backup spot (not perfect, but better than nothing).
This is something I feel REALLY strongly about - so drop a comment and tell me: how are you storing your photos right now? I genuinely want to know. 👇
Free advice: Paying for Prime? Free unlimited photo storage included. Thank me later :)
