I've had a draft saved for this post for the last week that I've kept going back to. I'm still not sure I have the right words to express how grateful I am.
Going back to school in my 30's was never on my bingo card, but the Algonquin Photography program was easily one of the best decisions I've made ... after the fact - it was actually a really difficult decision to make lol. Shoutout to my partner for pushing me and for keeping us afloat. I love you endlessly.
This program allowed me to rediscover my creativity, something I lost over the decade of working in corrections/community safety. It allowed me to form friendships, make connections, and meet some of the most incredible and kind-hearted people. Thank you for lifting me up and offering your support and encouragement.
This last year was not easy; working full-time often kept me up late into the morning hours and took me away from my friends and family. I've cried, I've stressed, my anxiety and depression battled it out regularly. But I've also laughed a lot and had a whole lot of fun. I've had the opportunity to learn and grow as a creative, alongside some of the best on the industry. I've learned to not be too hard on myself too (still a work in progress).
Thank you to everyone who was a part of my journey over the last two years. I really fu***ng love this and I'm looking forward to pushing myself and seeing what I can do in future.
Shoutout to the professors, ER staff, and industry professionals. Shoutout to the first (now second) year students who helped with our exhibition and best of luck in your final year. And lastly, shoutout to my friends and family for your patience and for volunterring to help out. I appreciate you all. 💛
Thanks for being here.
