I was pulling samples of our work in the Chateau Laurier Ballroom this week for an inquiring couple, and came across this absolute angel who’s three-day-long celebration ended with an incredible reception at the Chateau - and I was struck by this sequence, remembering I only had a short window for portraits while Ry captured the details downstairs before heading down to start the party and how a. Can you even imagine being this breathtaking on day three of partying? Wowowow. And b. sometimes all we really need is a few moments, a little movement, and some nice window light to create a future heirloom 🤍

There’s a lot of talk out there about creating a timeless wedding aesthetic, but every wedding is a document of its moment for better or worse. A silhouette, a colour palette, there will always be a “tell”.

What actually holds up across decades isn’t the aesthetic. It’s the feeling between the people in the frame. The specific way two people look at each other on their wedding day, is the one thing that truly transcends time. It belongs entirely to them, and could never feel dated 🤍

I truly love early spring. Sure, it can be a little mercurial in this corner of the world, but there’s something so undeniably optimistic about this time of the season. There’s a shared sense of anticipation, when the landscape is still bare and the air is filled with petrichor, and the first flowers peeking through somehow feel even brighter. I love it I love it I love it 🌷

More than ten years in and we still get nervous before a wedding. Not in a bad way, more like the feeling you get standing outside the door of a first date. You know something real is on the other side, and you only get one shot at it.

You’ve thought through everything you can, shown up as prepared as possible, worn the right thing, danced to your pump-up jams in the car on the way over, and then the door opens and none of that preparation is actually what carries you through.

What carries you through is being present enough to catch what happens next. That’s the whole job, really. Staying in the unpredictable moments that are constantly unfolding and surrounding you all day long.

A first date, like a wedding, refuses to go exactly the way you imagined it. The weather does something unexpected. An emotion surfaces that you weren’t anticipating. The hotel room blows a fuse and throws your schedule off track (true story) and if you’re too locked into the plan you made in the parking lot, you miss all of it.

That’s not the scary part though, that’s actually the best part. The true magic comes from letting your guard down and staying open. The best stuff almost always comes from the things you couldn’t have planned for ✨

A few frames of Clare in the blue hour light, surrounded by pieces her Mom has been carefully curating to decorate the family cottage with over a lifetime of travel and adventure.

I am always over the moon when our clients choose to incorporate personal spaces into their wedding day plans, being able to document these big moments against the quiet backdrop of family heritage just fills my heart to the absolute brim.

There’s a pendulum shift happening in the wedding world, and it’s such a beautiful thing to see. Luxury has long been a buzzword that carried a lot of superficial aspirations, and the curtain is finally being pulled back to reveal a longing for something deeper - the kind of luxury you can’t buy in a store 🤍
