first time i met this character was in a night club here in ottawa, skating a quarter pipe on the dance floor. while everyone was doing their basic stall tricks, he was airing out to the barrier of the dj booth with some tricks i wouldnt know what to call even now. i was thinking: “who the hell is this guy?”. that flamboyancy and spontaneity still makes me smile to this day and it has been a pleasure chipping away at filming a part with him over the last two years. his skateboard creativity is mirrored in the way he dresses, what he paints, and how he can fix his ever-breaking motorized vehicles. he’s a dependable and kind human that i’m glad to call a friend.

kyle is the stoic backbone of skate shop. when i first met kyle, i was young and a bit intimidated by his resigned demeanour. the more i came into the shop and bugged him, the more he opened up and i got to know his heart of gold. kyle cares so much about the skate scene here in ottawa. we have him to thank for the countless boards he’s brought in and gripped that let us do what we love. now, the bike in this photo is of utmost significance. it belonged to our dear friend charlie bowins who has passed. kyle was given the bike by the family, but that was only the start. unruly and illegal, not unlike it’s previous owner, it would take time to bring it back to it’s former glory. after a year of working on it and bringing it back and forth to the states to unregister from it’s floridian roots, this ‘72 suzuki enduro finally runs. now he can feel pride riding it through the streets. it’s just another little reminder of the charlie we all loved.

i’m starting a new unnamed project of local skateboarders. originally inspired by a blog called ‘the skartorialist’ by Sam Ashley in 2012. skateboarding (in my lifetime) has always been an inclusive environment where all it takes to start this silly hobby is a wooden toy and a lot of determination. i want to show what skateboarding is to me and what skateboarding has become, through the people that love it, plain and simply. i hope the photos become more diverse over time through this project and all walks of life can be celebrated. here i’ll start with my dear friend William Lalonde who is someone i can wholeheartedly rely on, as i am there for him. i may ask you to be a part of this while we are out skating, but please contact me if you’d like to be a part of it. i love skateboarding ❤️

"That's the day I realized that there was this entire life behind things, and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid. Ever. Video is a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember ... I need to remember...

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world ... I feel like I can't take it... and my heart is just going to cave in." -American Beauty
