So I made it to 41 today, and after years of humming and hawing on what I wanted to be when I grew up, I am finally doing the thing. And I need help.

Slow One is live on Kickstarter. It's a one-issue music magazine documenting my decade of chasing Canadian bands, photo pits, Polaris juries, and an unseemly number of Sloan shows. It's the physical magazine I’ve always wanted to see my work printed in; and I want to hold it in my hands before everything changes.

As a project born of the time between job searching and mom supporting, I'm betting on this; so I am going to need all the help I can get to make it real.

Back it. Share it. Tell someone who'd love a magazine that actually feels like something you'd receive in the mail.

I don't care what anyone says, are great. Again, moody music for a moody bitch, but with this exotic personality that feels oddly at home after a week or two of exclusively listening to everything George Harrison recorded for the Beatles in '66 and '67. I've seen them a few times now over the past few years, and it's always a treat.

Turns out, I had one last show for the year in me. Surprise and The Tea Party at TD Place for a great night of big shiney tunes. (Also Headstones, but they called out sick.) And, it was needed; if not for the photo op, than for the fact that the particular brand of Canadian alternative rock is basically a safe space for when I need feelings of frustration validated.

Absolute bonus, Finger Eleven did a bitchin cover of Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" - pretty much THE band I tend to turn to when I'm feeling this badly about life and it's situations.

It wasn't much, but it was needed.

I think my wins of the year have...dried up, I guess you can say. And not for lack of trying. I had my head on the clouds, got ambitious, and failed a bit miserably - at least for my standards.

Needless to say, I've been a bit down, as of late.

But then I boarded a random school bus to Quyon, QC, to see the magnificent at - a place I've never been to, but kept assuming was some kind of old legion hall. And, for four cozy hours, all was well in the world.
