“Inside the Boy’s Head”
An Elegy in Fragments | Guisi Lighthouse, 2009 | Semi-Fiction

She stood there... unaware... cradled in the silhouette of rust and memory, framed by the jagged hollow of what looked like a boy’s head. A trick of light, shadow, oxidation, and decay. Guisi Lighthouse, Guimaras. Circa 2009.

She was mid-focus. Young. Blooming. Bashful. Her fingers curled tenderly around the camera, listening with her eyes. Not just taking a photo... but feeling it. Tuning into the whispers of stone, and maybe... into the boy who once was. Now a man, stitched from memories.

She wasn’t just in the boy’s head, she was the thought he never spoke. A sniper’s dream. The quiet guest in the attic of his desire. A memory that never quite happened, yet lived on like a dream that wouldn’t die.

She moved with grace, unaware she was being remembered, not just captured on film, but etched into the marrow of someone’s longing and carnal desire.

And I, peeping behind the rusted and dilapidated crown of metal, watched and suspended the visual presentation of youth remember itself.

Some people never leave. Especially the ones we only imagined.

A dear friend, cradling his child beneath a carnival-colored umbrella. The air was thick with heat, but in that small patch of shade, there was only stillness and affection. The child, bright-eyed and serene, embodied quiet promise. I couldn't be prouder of my good friend, Mar Tantiado; a devoted father, and a friend who continues to inspire by simply showing up with love... and beer.
