Walking before the sun, and heading out for solo sunrise photo adventures is one of my most favourite things ever. These quiet little adventures always fill me with gratitude and joy.

I believe that emotion in a photograph does not come from expression alone.
It comes from atmosphere. From the weight of shadow. From the way light grazes skin so softly it feels like something is being whispered rather than shown.

Light does not just fall on skin.
It moves across it.
It finds the curve of a shoulder, the hollow beneath a collarbone, the soft edge where warmth turns to shadow.
This is what I am always chasing as a portrait photographer. Not a face. Not a pose. The moment light decides what to reveal and what to keep.
Shadow is where mystery lives. And mystery is what makes a portrait breathe.
When those two forces meet on skin, something shifts. The image stops being a photograph and starts being a feeling.

Why do I shoot film? There is something magical about the process. It’s tangible. Physical. Real. In a world full of digital images and AI, film offers something that I find fulfilling: Truth.

Color lies.
Not maliciously. But it distracts. It pulls your eye toward warmth, toward cool, toward the familiar emotional shorthand we’ve been trained to feel.
Strip it away and something shifts.
What’s left is light itself. The way it falls across a face. The geometry of a shadow on a wall. The weight of texture you can almost feel through the screen.
Black and white doesn’t make things prettier. It makes them truer. Raw in a way color rarely allows. You stop seeing the subject and start seeing the structure underneath.
That’s what pulls me back to it.

There’s something film does to skin that digital just can’t replicate.
It’s not nostalgia.
It’s not an aesthetic trend.
It’s chemistry.
Silver halide crystals reacting to light.
A physical, irreversible moment captured on a material surface.
Digital sensors sample the world.
Film records it.
And somehow, in that difference, skin looks like skin.
Warm. Dimensional. Alive.
That’s why I shoot film.

Light and shadow speak a language older than words. Light that lands like a whisper. Shadow that holds what isn’t said.

What is real?
Everything we see, feel, and experience is filtered through our limited sense perceptions. We can only detect a tiny fraction of the light, sound, and energy that actually exists around us.
Our brains don’t passively receive the world. They actively construct it, filling in gaps, making predictions, and shaping every moment based on memory, emotion, and expectation. Two people can stand in the same room and live completely different realities.
Science backs this up. Quantum physics suggests that observation itself influences what exists. Neuroscience shows us that what we call “reality” is really just our brain’s best guess.
So if we literally create our own reality… what are you choosing to create?
✨ The stories you tell yourself matter. The lens you look through matters. You have more power over your experience of life than you might think.
