Around the house
Migration is peaking.
A side trip to Rondeau, after leaving Amherstburg, to see a Prothonotary Warbler. Rondeau Park is a known breeding area for this warbler.
**************************************
The Prothonotary Warbler is a dazzling, golden-yellow songbird with blue-grey wings, known for its bright color and unique habit of nesting in tree cavities, often over water, in swampy forests. It is a species of concern, particularly in Canada where it's endangered due to habitat loss, a very small population and specific habitat needs. Its name comes from the bright yellow robes of papal clerks, and it primarily eats insects.
It is estimated that there are only 30 individuals in Canada. 😞
