Turning the half-century can be daunting for most. It’s here that many people settle in, take the easier option, come up with any old excuse, and find comfort in the modern-day norms.

One thing I am sure of, Svein Tuft will be searching beyond mountain passes and deep valley floors for the next fifty years. Never have I seen someone so at peace in these places.

RECON, a new film exploring Svein’s connection to exploration in the mountains of Southern British Columbia drops in 2027.

Before the world of endurance sports came into my life, I loved two sports: football and tennis.

Summers revolved around staying up late watching the Australian Open and then waking up trying to replicate the legends of the game in the backyard.

For years now, I have been trying to find a way to tell stories in the tennis industry. A sport that reaches so many cultures around the world, and with that, the people who find this sport so all-consuming.

Over the next year, I will be working with All Court Tennis Club on a short film series to dive into the subculture of tennis. So much is told of the 1% of Pros that make the World Tour. But the real stories lie with millions that grind away on local courts in their community simply for the love of the game.

In June, I travelled to NYC to document Farhad Roshanaie .His story and connection to ‘The Jungle’, a historic group of tennis courts in Harlem built by black tennis pioneers looking for a place to play.

We will be dropping breadcrumbs over the coming weeks leading into the US Open launch of this first film in the series.

Lemons into lemonade.

We were three days into our stay in Glasgow. The rain and grey skies hadn’t relented for close to a week. It was the start of Summer, but temps hadn’t risen above 12 degrees.

In the four years since I began working on projects with Rob Britton, I’d seen him routinely check off goal after goal with little fuss or fanfare. But here we were, two FKTs completed and one remaining, and he hadn’t been able to add another record to his growing list.

Sure, he could have gone into his shell, attributed it to unlucky mechanicals, harsh weather, or quietly whispered: “I am getting too old for this.” But instead, he was still methodically planning his pace and calorie needs, and dialling in his bike for the next morning’s 4am start.

The thing about these FKTs is that there is rarely a crowd to greet you. It usually results in a late-night finish with a cold pizza and b**r. The joy has to be internal, and the rider's motivation comes from a drive most can’t wrap their heads around. And that's where Rob truly excels.

Method to the madness.

What most people skip with Rob Britton is the meticulous planning, scouting, scanning over maps, tire choices, layer choices, how much nutrition is needed, when the headlamp needs to go on, the juggling of battery life of half a dozen gadgets, will resupply be open when I pass by, etc, etc…..It's all quite exhausting to watch from afar, and this is before the actual pedalling even begins.

Before the fitness is in place, flights and accommodation are booked; there are the logistics of these goals. Rob might just be the master of this skill set as he takes it all in his stride, despite the heavy fatigue that comes with the goal itself.

The Art Of Suffering.

When Rob Britton came to me with the idea of attempting to set three 300km plus FKTs in the UK in a week, I didn't give it much thought as at this stage, I have simply normalized his version of limitations.

The continued drive to push his body and mind to the brink is exhausting from afar, but he has a way of making the process look nonchalant.

In a year that has seen more ebbs than flows (his words), he still finds a way to pick himself up and get to the start line.

Film coming in the Fall.

“There wasn’t a lot of talk of how deep this disease was for him from such an early age. Then I came to learn that it has to come from within. But once you admit to it, there should be a boatload of people there to help you, but he didn’t have that. He didn’t have anyone to hold him up; he just had people putting him down.”

The community launch of Sink Or Swim is two weeks away. We’d love to see as many locals come to .cc and share inspiring story.

The Community Launch of Sink Or Swim is coming to Vancouver this Spring.

In 1994, 15-year-old stepped off a Greyhound bus in the Downtown Eastside just as the Vancouver riots broke out. Captivated by the energy and chaos, that moment set the tone for the next twenty years of his life as a skateboarder and struggling addict. During one of many attempts to get clean, Owen met a man who would change his life. Owen’s friend, the owner of a local bike shop, gave him a bike of his own. Chasing his new passion for gravel endurance racing provided Owen with everything he needed to break the cycle of addiction.
